This has always been our favorite Chinese restaurant for many years. It’s been a while since we’ve been back so we were excited to bring our out of town guests to have dinner. We were disappointed. There must have been a change in cooks or recipes. Starting with the egg rolls. I have never liked egg rolls from any other restaurant. The ones from Forbidden City have been fresh and crisp. The ones we had tasted as though they were precooked or leftover. The wonderful crisp, light, fried wontons from the past were always a delight. The ones served today were thick, very little filling compared to size of the wrappers. ( I believe egg roll wrappers and not wonton wrappers were used. ) I ordered Mandarin Shrimp. What a disappointment! The breading on the shrimp was thick and a bit doughy. The ginger beef was so sweet it was not palatable. The only redeeming part of the meal was the crab cheese and the Szechuan chicken. I don’t think we will return again.

Best part of the meal was the appetizers. The forbidden city chicken was flavorless with no spice in it even though it's classified as spicy. The fried rice wasn't good either. I've had better fried rice from the freezer section at Walmart. The shrimp and noodles was a disappointment as well, it was just shrimp and spaghetti noodles. Definitely not going back again. So save your money and go someplace else.
Sizzling rice soup. That is all.Seriously, though. We always order too much food and eat the left overs for a couple of meals later. Love the soup, wanton, and rolls as appetizers. Moo shu pork is one of the best I've ever had. Kids love the sesame chicken.
best food forever in michigan. I love there krorean noodle soup and forbidden city test good also.
I got Moo Shu Vegetable and my friend got Shrimp Chow Mein. Both were very good. Only complaint was the egg rolls were a bit tough and hard to cut.
We ordered 4 dinners. I had no idea they charge separately for everything. It was over $80!!! Shrimp was in eggrolls and won ton soup. I guess I should have asked. I just never seen it in the soup before. There was a hair in one of the dinners. I understand it happens but disgusting. Also there was a small rock in my husband's meal. So disappointed!!! We will not be going back.
Food was really old and overpriced. When we called to complain, they made it out to be our fault. Never wasting my money there again. They didn’t even offer a refund. It wasn’t edible.
We had our favorite Forbidden City Chicken…it has changed. It is little pieces of chicken covered in thick batter. What happened to the chicken?? Where is the chicken?
Everything we ordered was delicious. My family especially enjoyed the sizzling rice soup (which is a personal favorite to order).
