This restaurant was on my wishlist and I finally got the chance to check it out! With times as they are-Post Pandemic Labor shortage, my Server, Gabriel, was mediocre at best. He was busy however he was attentive. I was very disappointed with my meal. Wing Appetizer....wings were HUGE. The smoke flavor was excellent, tho there were no other Seasoning that I could taste. I ordered my entree: 2 Meats, 2 sides.Smoke very flavorful, no seasoning on the Ribs or Beef Brisket. Overall felt meal could have been seasoned better!
Real barbecue and extraordinary customer service. The customer service and food was good! The taste is really good you feel like you at a back yard barbecue. Good food and customer service, My best friend enjoyed the Mac and cheese while I enjoyed the tempura green beans. Smoked wings are extraordinary!
Very nice atmosphere. There is a bar inside and heated outdoor seating, as well as inside table seating. I was part of a party of 5 and everyone really liked their food. The smoked wings, however, were the star of the show. In my opinion they are the best around. They are smoked to perfection and better than fried wings! They are on the appetizer menu, but are large whole wings that are plenty enough to enjoy as an entree.
This place used to have lots of food on your dish. Now skimpy. Brisket was 50% fat. No pickle dish any more. That was their signature before. Beans in a cafeteria bowl, cole slaw in a paper boat. They've gone down hill in the past 3 years. I'm done.
This was the only place that was immediately available to seat my wife and I. Not only was the service extremely quick, but the atmosphere was cheery and upbeat. You can tell that friends come here for good food and good times. I'll definitely be coming back here when I'm in the area. The bacon appetizer was the perfect mixture of sweet and spicy. The Mac and cheese Shepard's pie was fulfilling and the portion size was perfect. Hats off to you guys, keep on doing what you're doing, it's working well.
Friendly staff, very patient with us as old friends more interested in chatting than reading the menu. Simple but near and clean environment. Many options on the menu that sounded good. Wish the food was hotter when brought to the table. Good portions, got good leftovers for lunch today!
Located in downtown Royal Oak, Lockhart's has some of the best BBQ in the area. I've never had a bad meal here. I recommend checking out the birthday club for discounts. Finally, if you're looking for something spicy, try the red hot sausage!
We went to Lockhart with another couple at 3pm for an early dinner, we were looking for a midway pointe. I read the reviews and decided to try it, we were greeted and our waiter we quite friendly and had recommendations for appetizers, we chose the wings which were bbq whole wings, the sauce was delicious. My husband and I shared the 3 meat and 2 side meal. We had half a chicken, ribs and brisket. The half chicken was not good, it seemed not quite done, the brisket and 3 bones of ribs were good. We had green bean and Mac and cheese for sides, the green beans were not good, crunchy, garlicky with a little salt no other seasoning. The Mac and cheese could use a little help, maybe aome black pepper and a little more cheese minus the cracker type topping. We ordered the brownie chocolate chip Sundae, it was the star of the meal. The brownie was warm, ice cream tasty with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. When we left the restaurant was packed but I think it was because it was the Saturday before st. Patrick's day and the drinks were flowing. Overall the food was average at best.
I had take out last weekend. There was Winterfest going on literally right in front of the restaurant so picking it up was very complicated. I think if I get take out again I will definitely make sure there is nothing going on in downtown Royal Oak.I didn't like that when I came to pick up the food it was just sitting on the bar. I wish it were in a warmer or something. It just seemed odd to just be sitting out in the open waiting for pickup.Overall, the food was pretty good. The ribs were the best part of the meal. The beans were tasty, the macaroni and cheese was slightly better than average. I definitely enjoyed that the coleslaw was savory and not sweet. I love savory coleslaw. It needed a little salt and pepper, but that was remedied easily. If I had to further critique something, it would be the cornbread. The cornbread was very dense, I'd say too dense. They gave us two barbecue sauces, not enough for the two racks of ribs that we ordered. I wish they had given us a little more barbecue sauce. Also when ordering there were not any prices on the website which made it a little bit difficult when calling and trying to ask for prices while ordering because the person on the phone really didn't know, he had to put me on hold and look it up. I could tell that they were very busy and he was doing a lot of things so I felt that I was annoying him by asking how much things cost. Add prices to the website and that problem will be solved!I probably will return to Lockhart's at a later date. I might try to dine in instead and see what that experience is like.
I took my family here for a good BBQ dinner because I saw this place Lochart's featured on Channel 4 news as the place of the day for it's Tasty Tuesday segment. We were not disappointed by what I saw on the TV either. The St. Louis style ribs were so fantastic you could eat them without putting any sauce on them. Also, the catfish was very good as well as there sides of Macaroni and Cheese and the baked beans were tasty. Overall, great dining outing and will definitely go back.
