Very disappointed. The fried calamari had absolutely no flavor and no color. The potato appetizer was just plain gross. We initially ordered a plain cheese pizza and the Alfredo. The pizza was okay, but the Alfredo sauce was watery and literally had no flavor. We had to take it back and swapped out the Alfredo for the Mediterranean pizza which had a sour taste and smell. It is a shame as it is a beautiful location. I will certainly not be returning.
I wanted to first state, that I love the food and the staff at Bigalora. However, I recently hosted a meetup group of 18 people for a Happy Hour/Dinner and the manager at Bigalora couldn't have made it more difficult. We had 3 tables of 6 people (18 in total) and the manager insisted that we had to have 1 group bill....they wouldn't even do 3 table bills, even though our waitress (who was great) was willing to do. His comment was we aren't set up for large events and it was almost like he was doing us a favor by letting us be there. Seriously, you think with 18 people eating and drinking there...he'd be more accommodating.
We were in town for a visit and casual drinks and apps next door at Arbor and thought a pizza to-go would be a great idea as we drive 40 minutes back home. So a simple vegeti pie with roasted tomatoes and peppers and arugula salad on it, no red sauce on this pizza so the flavors of the veggies and herb salad are the feature. We get going and open the box and the pizza didn’t have arugula salad on it. Now in my opinion this is equally important to balance the flavors and without it, the pizza was underwhelming and lacking. I imagine the creator of this flavor combo would agree. So I call the restaurant and ask what happened and the phone answerer said I can talk to a manager. Oh, they’re in a meeting. But I’ll get a call back. 2.5 hours later I call them back. Did I mention their on hold prompts were awful and wait time was several minutes. Oh it’s been busy for dinner hour. Yes, of course. No need to have a manager call me back, just have them refund the order as it was not made to satisfaction. Great, you’ll give her the message and we agree that’s reasonable solution for us all. Do you think I got a call or a refund? Now, about the pizza itself. Crust means a lot to me and wood-fired taste is one of my favorites. I don’t foresee giving them another chance but for your sake, ask for the crust to be well done so it’s not a limp doey mess.
The restaurant is beautiful. Nice space outside to enjoy watching the park during your time there. Pizzas are delicious. The rest of their Italian foods need more taste.
Though this establishment has been open for years, it would seem like the day we were there was its first night open. Yes, I know the pandemic has thrown a lot of businesses out of whack but seriously, you'd think it was day one. First of all, there were four of us and they only had two menus. When I asked for two more menus and a wine list, our waitress brought two more menus but said that they don't have a written wine list. Unfortunately, the wine list on line if very very out of date so don't bother to print it off at home before dining. Our waitress (with pen and paper) wrote down all the wines available but with no prices. What does that mean?! If you have to ask the price you can't afford it - go somewhere else and drink wine. But, we were all thirsty and already had to wait quite a while while she hand wrote the entire wine list so I ordered some wines I knew to be good and generally not that expensive. As it turned out when I got the bill, neither wine was expensive. Actually the Parducci Cab for $34 was very nice as was the Talbot Chard at $12 per glass. I think if they had a wine list they could sell some wine because the quality/value ratio was very decent on what we purchased. We ordered some warm olives which were absolutely delicious. But, shouldn't they be served with bread? And, shouldn't they have a bowl for the pits? I ordered the Manilla Clams Guazetto which was a great dish with enough spice to build value but not too hot. Again, shouldn't there be a bowl for the clam shells? My wife ordered the Bacco Sausage Pizza which we were told was a thin crust pizza. It quite puffy crust and was pretty bland. After she ate some, she asked for pepper flakes and grated parm. That really picked it up. Wouldn't you think that pepper flakes and parm would be an automatic to bring out with a pizza? Same with my brother in laws Rigatoni Bolognese. Again, quite bland but improved immensely by the pepper flakes and parm. My sister had the Sunday Meatballs. Tasty, but a bit cold in the center. All in all, the food was creative and if served with peppers and parm to start, could have been quite good. This is a restaurant probably run by a good chef with no front of the house experience.
Nice place to sit and have lunch or a drink. I had the spicy argodolce pizza and fries and the pizza was great. The crust was thin and crispy. Wasn’t heavy and enjoyed it very much. Highly recommended.
We went to Bigalora to celebrate a couple February birthdays after calling several other places trying to find somewhere to accommodate two diary allergies. When calling, the staff assured us they could make it happen and when we got there everything was as promised. My daughter had several dairy free choices and enjoyed being able to have a good meal out. All the other food was outstanding including the salmon, several different pizzas and the appetizers. Our waitress, Jessica, went above and beyond anything I could have hoped for even checking with the kitchen on several dairy questions.I can’t wait to go back and try other options on the menu. The food and service were outstanding. Easily 5 stars
Had great Mother/Daughter dinner date and decided to try Bigalora in Plymouth. Our server Zoe was fantastic with providing menu suggestions. We enjoyed a glass of Treana Cabernet and split the small chopped salad, focaccia with marinara and the pistachio pesto white pizza with chicken instead of sausage. We took a piece of tiramisu to go. What a delicious and fresh meal. Zoe's friendly and attentive service was outstanding! We will definitely be back.
Larger parties beware. While our server was amazing, the promise of a table for our party. of 10 in an hour was non- existent. Don't promise what you can deliver. Waited almost 2 hours for our table and when we asked why we couldn't be seated when there were 4 tables in the middle of the restaurant empty, the answer was they couldn't put our party at those tables because it would screw up the server assignment. Manager admitted that the restaurant cannot accommodate larger parties so I suggest if you have more than 6 in your party, find another place to eat. Plymouth had plenty of choices.
Bigalora is usually good. I have been going to other locations for 10 years. This newer location has been hit or miss. Two months ago, the service was not good. Returned this week and the service was very good. However, the same pizza I always have was super cheesy, basically double cheese. I hope this was a fluke because otherwise, I will continue going only to Ann Arbor even though it’s farther from my house. The Ann Arbor location is always excellent.
