We were two couples for dinner.Our server, Haley, at first seemed to want to give us an enjoyable, relaxing dinner, asking if we wanted more time or ready to order immediately. We wanted to space our time and enjoy. First, one of our drinks was made incorrectly. Second we ordered the Artichoke appetizer, While it tased great it was not cooked well enough to get any of the artichoke meat off the leaves. Definitely not worth the money. We ordered our meals after the drinks and app arrived. It seemed like the entree's arrived immediately after. We were still enjoying our drinks and trying to eat some of the undercooked artichoke, leaving too many plates crowding the table. My husbands haddock was not cooked well. I had the grilled chicken salad and must say it was excellent. We ended with their well known carrot cake. It was very good but not as good as I remember in the past. Then we had separate bills (one for each couple). We were charged for three entree's!!! Didn't notice until the next day. So I am sure they would not adjust after the fact. Not sure if our friends bill was right. Don't plan on going back there any time soon.
During the pandemic in 2021, there weren’t many restaurants as were going to but we felt comfortable with J Alexander’s standards and as always, hospitality is great. We celebrated Mother’s Day a few days earlier to avoid the crowd during lunch and we celebrated Father’s Day early on a Saturday when it was really busy. What I like about J Alexander is the they are consistent with quality of food and service whether I’m with family or solo. Time of day or day of the week never seems to effect them, which is why we come to this location often.

Very impressed and happy with waitstaff and drinks, but disappointed and very let-down with food taste, quality, and price.Everyone was very nice and the drinks had a good ratio of flavor and liquor to price. Our steaks were something I could get at a regular steakhouse for way cheaper and possibly with actual seasoning; they had no presentation save for a gaudy name-stamp of the restaurant in huge letters along the top of the very large plate.The filet mignon was unflavored and was served with a sauce that was not to my taste; the server was kind enough to get me some of the glaze that was on my boyfriend's steak, though, otherwise I am not sure if I would have been able to eat it. I substituted the baked potato side for the special Mac and Cheese they make with imported white cheeses, but it had an overpowering smell along with flavors that did not mix, including the panko on top. I was very disappointed as I love mac and cheese and have to try it at any place I go to that offers it.My boyfriend advised his steak did not have any flavoring either, save for the glaze which was nice and light but applied too sparingly.The dessert was nice, but it was simple. I wish there were more options, but I do not believe we would come here again anyway.
i would give higher stars if it weren’t for the girl named molly. another table during dinner wanted to talk to a manager and i didn’t know if she was a manager or a high school girl. my husband and i could hear their whole conversation from our table. she just seemed negative and like she didn’t enjoy her job.food was great but they definitely get busy. i recommend a weekday over the weekend if you’re going to go here!
I usually enjoy J’s but last night my K1 lemon drop was weak & sweet (after they remade it once). And their salmon is delicious but RARELY ever close to the 8 oz.. dinner portion that they promise. Last night was one of those nights - it was more like 6.5 oz. tops. They were busy and I was tired so they got away with it on my dime. Beware !
Great steak. The chicken tenders are so juicy and crunchy. The chocolate cake is a must have choice. I highly recommend.
I went there with a group of friends. Although we usually frequent the other locations; we somehow ended up in Livonia last nite. That being said; I was last to arrive to meet my group. I joined the table & things seemed to be going well. Our waitress "Ingrid" _seemed nice as well. However, I personally FELT this odd energy coming from her. Yet she & I had not conversed, nor interacted.I still was able to notice the way she never greeted nor acknowledged a new guest at the table. The empty seat was now filled, yet _nothing.I simply had concluded that she isnt a manner able waitress; & carried on with a great time.When we ordered drinks and mimes took much longer than the other ladies; I didnt understand why, but I was happy once it came.When Miss "Ingrid" took the dinner orders she took the tree people to my left__ SKIPPED me_ then took the person on my right....then me. I found that just as odd as this energy. Yet, still; I said nothing.At the end of the nite, I added on item on for carry out. As we were leaving; that item (untouched) fell out of my bag& spilled. I alerted the nearby staff, as well as "Ingrid." Although I had just spent $160 for my portion alone; "Ingrid" didnt do what is actually customary elsewhere. The dry/expressionless LOOK on "Ingrid's" face told me that she was NOT concerned with my spill, nor with accommodating me in that matter at_all. My spill was-just something I literally HAD to take as a loss. Which, for me, is expected in Livonia. "Ingrid" gave me a look that said (to me) _this is WHY "YOU"(me) DO NOT GO TO NOR THOUGH_ "LIVONIA."Being IN LIVONIA is why I was NOT offered another bag to properly accommodate the items in the first place.In LIVONIA??♀️ Whatever fell, is just too bad_ No matter WHAT I just spent_there.As you can see from my "emoji;" Im a NNNNNNneveRmind. That HATE RUNS DEEP & its real. & Her final gesture confirmed what I thought.She probably doesnt like the super DARK antioxidant RICH Chocolate.Tans are about as far as she can STOMACH. The tree others werent even milk chocolate. I came on like BLACK COFFEE_no cream.I think she can ONLY fake liking coffee__IF it has heavy cream.Thats why I STAY AWAY FROM LIVONIA.
From arriving to leaving we had a wonderful experience, celebrating my birthday. The food presentation and flavor combination was exceptional. Even the chefs were attentive and seem to all work together. To the J. Alexander family team in Livonia, Asante (thank you in Swahili)
Wonderful! Food was outstanding. Food was ready 15mins after we sat down at table. Just keep in mind make reservations on the weekend it was an hour wait but it was well worth it.
