I hear that employees are on strike. Just fire them and hire new because I have had many great experiences here but not in the last 6 months.servers were terrible, food cooked poorly, and don’t even attempt take out it always sucks. Now they are out front with sign eat the rich not sushi. These people need to learn a work ethic.
Average Chinese buffet peddled as "Premium Japanese". Lived in Japan and went Maru with someone whom happens to be Japanese. Ordered Gyoza and got china buffet pot stickers. Ordered hibachi chicken and got a plate of truly average Chinese buffet. There was nothing about the entire meal that was Japanese. Service was great though and so was the tip but the waitress new exactly what I was referring to. The really sad thing is all the other patron's that perhaps don't know the difference of Chinese buffet being passed as something "special" or Japanese. Save your money on this Chinese lemon. There are actual Japanese restaurants that do food more or in this case "Actually" authentic.
Well priced mixed drinks. Sushi is fun and vibrant.
First time here and Lisa our server was very kind! we ordered what she recommended and it was good, the Ocean's 20 and the Madagascar role. One thing that did not impress me was the small seating in a corner when we made reservations days in advance as I would have thought reservations would have priority and better seating. But the food and service was nice.
Great service and food. Good atmosphere and inside decor. Like the old fashioned building inside look. Good portion of food depending on what you get. $$$
Great service, great food! I had a chef roll! It had so many wonderful flavors! If you're not sure, and are adventurous, have a chef role!!
Wow! What an exquisite time. Went to Maru to celebrate my birthday with my husband. We had reservations, and we're seated right away. Our server, Rachael was fantastic. She gave recommendations, and really listened when I asked for specific cocktail recommendations to my tastes! The seasonal menu is an excellent way to keep things fresh, while also having a solid selection on the main menu. Everyone was friendly, we were served quickly. Due to a mixup, one of our sushi rolls came out late. We didn't mind, but the manager comped it anyways. Just absolutely considerate, excellent business practice. Very impressed, and will be back again!
Maru is usually my go to sushi spot in Kalamazoo. The food always taste great. However, their take out is horrible. Yesterday, I placed a huge take out order that totaled over 200$ plus a tip. They called me shortly after the order was placed to confirm that they got it and they have to make a modification to one of my entrees. No big deal! However, and hour passed and I went to pick up my order at 7:30pm. At 7:40pm, they told me that they hadn’t even started it but they would get it out as soon as possible. By 7:50pm, we finally had our order. When we unboxed everything, the sushi rolls were smaller than what they serve in the restaurant. We were very disappointed in what we got for the price we paid and that the manager did not compensate us for the long wait (like giving us our 30$ tip back) after having forgotten about our order and preparing it late.
Never been disappointed. Atmosphere is great, food is phenomenal, and service is quick! Best place for sushi in the Kalamazoo area, always returning here.
We were a party of 20, way too big and you made it work! You got everything right and took the time to answer every question we had.Next time I am in town, I will definitely be back!
