If you like sushi don't pass up Sushi Yama, great little hidden gem (literally hidden ?) in the basement of the McKay Tower. Quiet, inviting and friendy little place to have a good meal or snack!
it was located in a amazing part of grand rapids! the foods delicious ?
I love sushi and I have only had "bad sushi" once at a place in Denton, TX, which I think was of significantly higher quality than this. Pictured is their "white tuna" and regular tuna roll. I could not finish my lunch... I am so sad that I spent money and time here.
Came here for a meal during a big conference. Only planned on stopping by once during the week. Ended up coming by a few times since it was so good. Very fresh, delicious sushi. Its a tiny place with few staff (so dont expect a large order to come out fast), but its absolutely worth dropping by for awesome sushi.
I only wanted to give it a try thought herpes don't have cure but now I'm 100% herpes free. thanks to https://www.facebook.com/Draigbogidi/
Ordered take out to eat back at the hotel - wished we would have dined in once we got there. Probably one of the cutest shops I've seen. Prices are super reasonable and the sushi was delicious. Will definitely keep this place in mind when we visit again! The gentleman that checked us out even gave us a little sleeve of chewy candies!
Excellent! Highly recommended. Based on a tip from a local friend, suggested this place for best sushi in GR. Made reservations but wasn’t needed. It’s in basement of building but they did nice job with atmosphere. Sushi was the best my wife and i have had. Order was quick and just absolutely delicious. Super short walk from Amway Hotel. Highly recommended.
I don’t like heavy rice rolls/nigiris and sushi yama’s style is perfect for me. Very convenient, efficient, great quality and no frills. You might think that they go too light on rice for nigiris if you are used to nigiris with big rice balls, tho.
I'm a serious sushi maniac from Asia and this place simply DOES NOT know how to make sushi. The taste of sushi is completed through rice, yet look at the amount of rice they "attach" to the sashimi. It's less than a quarter of the rice they were supposed to add. Thus the rice is far less than what they're advertising on pictures. And yes, every single piece of sushi was like this and I felt like I'm only eating sashimi without tasting any rice. Don't call this a sushi, as this is basically like a semi-sashimi. If you're going here only for rolls, maybe it's not so bad as I haven't tried those. But for sushi, NEVER come here as they don't even know what a sushi is. Go to another nearby sushi restaurant instead.
Such a wonderful hidden gem in the midst of busy downtown Grand Rapids. I went here for lunch today, and was in and out in 30 min. I had a delicious meal at a fair price in a relaxing atmosphere. Thanks so much!
