I don't know if you'd call it a hidden gem, but a jewel nonetheless. Small, intimate, friendly and attentive staff. And if the weather, cloud cover and the sunset are in your favor you are in for a real treat.

I come here for cocktails often and sit at the bar. They are great, the bartenders are great, everything seems up to par! The interior is really pretty. However, the last time I was here, I also went up to the Rooftop. They have a limited amount of drinks available there, but our drinks were still okay. Then we ordered food - not a good idea. I don't know if it's because they are upstairs, or the food is this bad downstairs, too, but it was awful. I ordered the Salmon salad, and my friend ordered the Half Chicken. The salad was NOT good, and we agreed that my salmon did not look cooked. But honestly there was basically a plate of arugula and the fish. There aren't any veggies or anything in the salad - not impressive. The chicken was just okay - but also very bland and not incredibly warm.Service was just okay up there, but the view is nice. We didn't have to wait, but it was a Monday.

Great location; awful service. We walked in for one drink well before last call and were extremely rushed from the moment we sat down. For such a laid back space they are really uptight and we felt like a burden the entire time.

Such a great location and the views and drinks are top! The staff has always been amazing despite all the challenges they've faced. Highly recommend

Best rooftop in GR! Grab a small plate and make a cocktail and watch the sunset! There's really no other place like this in GR!

I literally waited 45 minutes for a salad that didn’t even require warming up meat. Because my server forgot to ring it in. A different server brought me the bill with salad comped and apologized for the wait and said 23$ salad was comped cus it took WAY too long. As I’m waiting for my them to come take my payment my actual server finally comes back and says “they brought you the wrong bill” and brings me a bill with the 23$ salad still on it after I was told it would be comped. When I questioned this he said he would have to call his manager now. At this point I said forget it and paid and left. I will never return to the this restaurant. And will be letting my massive social media following know to avoid as well

The experience of being on the roof was amazing...the cocktails were good as well a little too pricey $30 for 2 drinks and $85 for a bottle of rose. The food was terrible taste like they cooked it in a microwave or it sat under a heat lamp..I gave 2 stars simply because the food was very expensive and did not taste well at all..I requested butter because the meat was hard and dry I was charged $10 for it! Not only was I charged but it was cold like they just took it from the fridge and served it in a bowl...after all that being said the server was very nice ? it was again the food for the price...also no smoking, vaping, I overheard another customer asking if it was ok and tge reply was no.

This place is a vibe! I was there with a few friends & the weather & atmosphere was perfect! We just had a few cocktails, some conversation & just let it all just soak in.

First time visiting Mertens Prime. Service was very good but not great due to what I suspect was a staff shortage. We were not rushed and things came on time. The beet salad was delish but the vichyssoise was more like mashed potatoes in a bowl than a soup. The 8 oz filets were done med rare to our order, just right. Sides were big enough to share. The Bananas Foster was New Orleans good! The price was Chicago style $$$$ which is a bit rich for Grand Rapids.

Went here as a treat; this is not a cheap place to eat. Our waitress was outstanding and she was the best thing about our visit. I was impressed by some of the menu choices like marrow bones. But I am not Queen Victoria so I did not order those. I had a beet salad with a mild goat cheesy topping, the beets were just beets, although allegedly vodka infused. So dark that I had not read that on the menu, but it turned out not to matter. I like beets, but I can easily roast plain beets at home. The pepper stuffed with ratatouille was another miss. Not bad, but bland and boring. And ratatouille? I have made ratatouille many times following Julia’s method. It is time consuming and delicious. This was a unpleasantly textured cheesy(?) mass that I couldn’t recognize as ratatouille. Under seasoned and served with undressed greens. Not inedible but extremely boring. And out of season. Why did I order it and why was it offered? The child in our group had Mac and Cheese. Normally a child friendly choice. It was much to crusty for me, never mind a 3 year old, and also under seasoned. This is not the cardiac unit of a hospital where salt has to be avoided! The other choices at our table were onion soup (boring), duck a l’orange (boring), and salmon (boring). We were all disappointed. It’s not bad food! It’s just not really very good.
