Food taste OK, but I think I got food poisoning after eating there. That evening I was in bed and stayed in bed or in the bathroom all the next day. That was awful, and I never have issues with my stomach. I ordered the grilled fish and they did not have the side of bacon hash but it was still listed on the board. They also did not provide ANY alternate or discount. The service was terrible to say the least. Very rude lady that works there. I will never go back there.
Fish Lads is an excellent place for to go meals and raw seafood. My favorites are the blackened fish sandwich, fish lad salad, and a warmed lobster roll. The fish sandwich is an amazing savory food that is as cravable as dessert; fish salad is light, with diverse flavor, tastey and healthy, and the lobster roll is mounded high with quality meat. I sometimes like the trout; sometimes I do not. Although the fish is always good it comes with a hash which is not consistent in size.Half the time the potatoes are not cooked through. The raw seafood is of high quality...but is is expensive. Workers and hands on owner are amazing.
Quality fresh fish, even if pricey. The fish on display are caught with 1-2 days before arrival. If memory serves they are caught near Alaska. The staff are helpful and always offer to gut and scale your fish first, if buying whole fish. Highly recommend.
We had lunch at fish lads today, there were only 6 or 8 stools available for sitting, so we ordered our lunch, then moved over to the more comfortable Apertivo wine bar. The food was lovely, but please understand this is more a fish and seafood market than a restaurant.
I have been here many times, and the service is ok (considering COVID; staffing). The fish here is the best in Grand Rapids; if you go go any where else in Grand Rapids, its going to be coming from GFS or SYSCO. This is as close as you're going to get, to ocean state quality in Grand Rapids..
Great oysters -if there isn’t seating at the bar, they’ll deliver to the wine bar (I recommend pairing with the sparkling Italian). My only complaint would be the gal taking our order was a bit surly, but she did seem to warm up by our second order.
First time purchasing some fresh fish from Fish Lads, and not impressed for several reasons. First, it took 10 minutes for someone to recognize us standing at the counter and waiting. They had seen us, but maybe they were busy in the back. Next, the gentleman didn’t wear gloves, took each piece out and placed on the bare scale (no paper, no plastic). Were his hands clean? The scale? I work in food manufacturing, probably not very sanitary. Also, he re-weighed the fish after wrapping…am I now paying for the paper weight too? He handed us off to another person to ring us up, and although he wrote weights on the package, he could not remember which was which. We purchased walleye, white fish, some smoked salmon, and another fresh fish. I don’t think they could have worse service, the owner should audit and get involved.
What a fantastic selection of seafood!
Bought some Bronzini, walleye and already cooked shrimp. Fish was great - shrimp was like eating a rolled up wet napkin…no flavor
I've been going to Fish Lads since the day they opened. I love the guys there. The prices are on the high end but the product is completely worth it. I absolutely love this place.
