We were going to go to Wolfgang's around the corner but we were not waiting an hour for that. We found Basalt's by chance, walking away. Turned out to be a VERY happy accident. Everyone working was super nice, there was a 0 minute wait, and the food is out of this world. There is no way I come back to GR next time without stopping here for at least one breakfast. Please do yourself a favor and go here.
Everything is so fresh and delicious. There's a really great vibe here in general. The owner has developed a really fantastic set of items on the menu. There's a real commitment to community here that comes across clear as day. Easy 5 stars, I look forward to great things from this place.Try the Mommie Dearest.
My new favorite breakfast place in Grand Rapids! I’m SO glad they finally have a store front - I used to get their breakfast tacos at the farmers market. Their food is top notch DELICIOUS. This is their special - Migas, but vegan. SO incredibly delicious. The flavors are perfectly balanced, you don’t need to add anything. HIGHLY recommend!!
AMAZING breakfast tacos!!
Another meal at Basalt and the food and service did not disappoint! For lunch, I had the Taco Plate with one Heirloom Mole taco and one Chimichurri Shrimp taco and a side of green rice. I added a Horchata that had a shot of espresso (aka Dirty Horchata). It was AMAZING! What I love about their menu is that nearly all their dishes can be made vegan! So there is something delicious to eat for everyone.
We had the Hammer egg sandwich and the breakfast bowl (both vegetarian) and it was all. So. Delicious. ?
Ordered online for delivery. They missed a note indicating a dietary restriction. Requested queso fresco be replaced with house made vegan cheese sauce - still got queso fresco. Horcheta french toast was missing the scrambled eggs. Overpriced for the serving sizes. Not at all happy with our meal, could have made this at home. Won't be back.
Absolutely loved it- Super friendly staff, great vibe and I had the bfast burrito and ooo it was tasty. All the deliciousness of chorizo and great beans but not greasy at all. Good stuff!
If you are looking for some variety in your breakfast, Basalt in Eastown is worth a try. Non-routine breakfast tacos have far more going on than simple egg, potato, bacon. Very tasty. Highly recommend placing an order on Square and then swinging through to pick up on the way to work. Try the Executive taco. Get 2 for a normal meal. 3 if you are a big eater. I've been 3 times now and have not been disappointed yet.
Exterior: The store is located in a relatively safe part of town with average parking. Their own lot is relatively small but there is street parking available. The storefront is kept up nicely and is easily visible driving by.Entrance/lobby: Well designed with Lo-Fi music playing, the chairs are a little weak but the booths are very comfortable. They have a cute island in the restaurant where you can refill water and grab extra sauces.Service: Exceptional service, they are one of the few restaurants where they actually remember my name and will use it in conversation with future visits. They are a little on the pricey side but definitely worth the visit.Food: The spicy ketchup is a must-have, it has just enough spice to make your mouth burn but not ruin the food. The breakfast burrito with either mole or carnitas tacos are absolutely insane. Always get the green rice too, I wish I could order it by the pound.Final notes: Definitely equal or better than Wolfgang's for breakfast, it is convenient that I can walk in at 8am and order lunch.10/10
