We were visiting the area and wanted a high end meal. The Kirby House is very nice and has several options depending on the type of food you want. We ate in the Grill Room. We discovered they had just removed their rosemary chicken dish from the menu, but they made it for us upon request. We also enjoyed some delicious cocktails.
17th year for our anniversary/wife’s birthday dinner. Love The Grill Room.
If you are looking for stellar service, relaxing ambiance and fine dining, The Grill Room is the restaurant to look to within the city of Grand Haven. Ben has taken care of our family there for years and provides the careful, curated experience we appreciate when escaping from a busy world. Perfect for special occasions, business dinners, gatherings, and every day.
Great food, excellent service and wonderful ambiance! Glad to have it open again!!
Mother’s Day
We were hoping the Grill Room reopening would take us back to how it used to be but the food was not good. Chaotic check-in process. Service was good but that doesn’t make up for low quality food.
This is NOT the Grill room I remember. Asked for bread service? They came out with some greasy cheese garlic bread on a pizza tin and charged me $10 for it. Really disgusting mushrooms that used to be a favorite on the menu, came out looking like lumpy milk with chopped raw onion on top, we asked to have it removed, couldn't eat it, charged $15 for that. Ordered mashed potatoes but was told they are out of the ingredients to make mashed potatoes. Ordered the filet medium well, was served bloody. Figured I might as well drink if I can't eat, glass of wine was served in a wine glass with a big lipstick mark on the rim and fingerprints all over. I cannot believe I paid $120.00 plus a 20% tip for this. NEVER again. We had been grill room customers for almost 20 years before this. I have no idea what happened here, but it isn't good.
Great service! We had the mushroom appetizer- incredible!! We both had steaks. Delicious!! We are sooooo happy its back open!!
We had been regular customers of the grill room for 20 years and we were so excited hear it was reopening. It is Nothing like the grill room of 2 years ago. I basically paid $120 plus tip for rosemary fries and a 6 oz bloody steak that I ordered medium well. We asked for bread service, we were brought greasy cheese garlic bread on a pizza pan (and charged $10 for it) the server said they don’t “have bread.” we ordered the forest mushrooms which used to be so good, they brought out a bowl of white soupy looking mushrooms with raw chopped onions on top. I asked her to just take it away it was so gross looking. And I was charged $15 for that. My daughter asked for mashed potatoes, the server came back out to say it could only be ordered with an entree, not on its own. I offered to pay more. Nope, can’t do that. Ok, add it to my entree then. Comes back and says it can’t be added to the salmon entree, has to be a steak. Fine, I said, I’ll order a steak just so she can get mashed potatoes. She comes out and says the kitchen said they are all out of the Ingredients needed to make mashed potatoes. I then ordered a glass of wine, if I can’t eat anything, at least I can drink. The wine glass had lipstick mark around the rim, and I wasn’t wearing lipstick. I can’t imagine anything else that could happen, it was one of the worst dining experiences ever. If you remember the grill room from 2 years ago, I’m telling you that this is not the same place, it’s not even close. Drive to Grand Rapids to Ruth Chris’s if you’re going to spend $150 on dinner.
This place was absolutely amazing! Nothing but 5 star service
