I’ve been here twice now in the last month. Both times waited almost 10 minutes before we were even greeted by our server. The food and the drinks were subpar both time and the service is lackadaisical. All they do is apologize and blame the bar and the kitchen, yet people around us didn’t seem to have the same problem. I’ve never had a bad experience at the west side location, it’s always great there. It’s too bad because this place has a great patio but I will not come back or recommend this place. So many better options for Mexican cuisine in the East Lansing area.

Never thought I would say this but El Azteco let me down. Placed a takeout order and headed home only to find they got the entire order wrong. Chicken enchiladas instead of beef, BIG DIFFERENCE. This is where it gets worse. Called to remedy the situation, the person in charge even remembered someone asking if I could get the order uncooked so she was aware of my order when I called and explained it was wrong. No authority to remedy it so I was suppose to hear back from someone else. Never called. I called days later and she saw the order was beef and insulated it was impossible they got 7 dinners wrong. Well, they did. Still in no position to remedy the issue so I have to wait to speak to someone who can. For someone who has enjoyed their food since college and you make it seem like I’m lying about your staff f**king up my order is insulting. And no resolution still. Now it doesn’t even matter, your treatment to a long standing customer willing to drive an hour for your food has made his last trip. Now you USE TO BE the best Mexican restaurant around. ??

Burnt fajitas on my 25th birthday, fajitas enthusiasts stay clearI love fajitas and make it a point to always eat them on birthday. I am new to the east Lansing area, so I was excited to try El Azteco out. I walked the 1.5 miles to get there. Unfortunate I got Burnt fajitas, my order was placed half hours before closed so I am not sure if the cooks were just trying to get it push out fast, but it was rather disappointing ?. Are there good aspects of the restaurant, for sure, I enjoyed the Margaritas and there is a nice window view from the 2nd floor.

I'm not really sure how to describe this experience. The food was average at best. Nothing about this place is authentic. I ordered quesadillas with rice and beans and my son had the fajitas. The food was bland. The staff did not put utensils in the to go order. We had to get them from the hotel. The chips over cooked. It is my hope that Lansing has something better to offer those like myself who prefer authentic Mexican food. I knew something was up when I saw that the restaurant was 1 block away from Campus. ? college kids will eat anything.

I went right before the dinner rush, so the service wasn't bad. The food was a different story. The chicken gordita was good. The beef one needed sauce. It was kind of strange to see the beef option at a "Mexican Restaurant" be ground beef instead of shredded. The beans(frijoles) and rice didn't have any flavor. It was weird having to put salt and pepper on my food at a "Mexican Restaurant". I wouldn't be surprised if the rice came from a microwave pouch. The only part of my meal that I finished was the chicken gordita. The margarita tasted like jungle juice from a college party. I wouldn't go back. If you are looking for Mexican food more Americanized than Taco Bell this is the place for you.

This place use to be great. It was a part of every college student's diet and a cornerstone/relic of East Lansing history. It was affordable, wildly popular, and delicious! Then one day, Arturo Santa Cruz, the original owner, sold the place to a family that owns a bunch of bars in the area, and now the place is not anywhere in the ballpark of affordable, wildly unpopular, and the food tastes awful, straight trash. The problem is the owners focus - it's not about the food anymore, it's focus is now about booze and getting MSU students piss hammered. The quality of their food has completely deteriorated. If you are one of those nostalgic types that consider your holiday visit back to town incomplete without eating here, think again. This is NOT the El Azteco from your past. Ever since Art sold the place, it's steadily turned to complete sh*t. Art won't even eat here. The closest you'll come to the El Azteco you remember from the past might be found at El Azteco West, in Lansing. That's where people these days go when they want decent food and decent atmosphere, including Art Santa Cruz. El Azteco East is nothing more than a bar with super sh*tty food now. Both El Azteco's have become rediculously priced, but at least you won't feel completely ripped off at El Az West, which is owned by a completely different family, one who has a history with the place and original owner. El Azteco East should seriously consider changing their name to something else.

Excellent service from Rebecca, no complaints there. It was very crowded on the day we went and the food was off, not as tasty as expected. Just not the quality of the west side El Az. Not sure if it was because of the volumes of people or the cooking staff. Enjoyed the roof deck sitting

Staff seemed to be too busy doing nothing much to help. It took 20 minutes to get a cheese burrito to go. It was small, flavorless and too expensive (about $6). Nunca más.

Family gathering hosted by Lynne, an MSU alumnae. She chose the venue based on her '79 Freshman experiences. Ambiance is better, wasn't very busy at 1200EDT. Aztec easily accommodated 8 of us. Waitperson Marissa was prompt, friendly, professional and efficient. Her recommendation was spot on. Her service SUPERB!!!!
