Tried going today, place was clean and I loved the style of it. Open swing out windows and great music. Unfortunately short staffed and couldn't get the kitchen open. My teens need to eat every two hours so this wasn't going to work.
Cool place. Zero communication though. The phone number on their website is not working so you can't call them. If you leave them a message they do not get back with you at all, or at least not in a timely manner (messaged yesterday and no response today). It says on Google that the Tavern is open from Sunday to Saturday from 10AM - 10PM. That is not updated and incorrect. It is only open for events like Tigers game and Fox Theater events. But the only way you can know for sure if they are open is by actually being there in person to see with your own eyes that it's open. Nothing listed on their website other than "Open for certain events.." No way to call them to confirm they are open. And no response to messages. Good luck planning anything with them.
Met a friend after Lions-Eagles game. Anthony was very professional and engaging as a Bartender. Live music, good food.
Ran in to shelter from the monsoon...they let me bring in my bike. Had a scotch, a beer and chili fries. Very nice, gave me a towel to dry off.
This place is very interesting, first off we ordered our drinks, nothing wrong with that, but then we noticed a colony of ants on the ground, then we found a live bee and had to kill it, the food wasn’t that good, the menu was pretty limited, but the waiter was kind
We visited during the great Detroit flood. Every restaurant was closed due to Covid or due to the flooding. Town pump was open and AMAZING. They treated our party of 8 like family. We sat comfortably out of the heat and had an affordable amazing lunch. They did a great job catering to my wife and son's gluten allergy! Such a great place. We'll return for sure!
Great staff! Food was delicious bar/tavern grub and everyone was welcoming and professional. Talked to bartender Andrea and cook Alex and they were a riot - funny and engaging. Great gem in downtown Detroit!
Bartender was super nice and it was so cool for the guitar player to be above us at the bar! Not too busy either after the tigers game. Good hidden gem
I never managed to ever actually eat here since it was never known for their good, guess why they don’t have high stars on here. There were months at a time where we we seemed to be here every other Saturday. It’s my friend from work’s favorite watering hole and my ex during college’s too. Why was that? Anyways this was a decent spot to be, we would try to not get here too late as parking would get tough after 11pm. I don’t come here anywhere as often, not missing it much.
After reading other reviews, we had low expectations. Went on Lions/Packers game day so they had a limited special event menu but it was pretty good. Service and atmosphere were great. We would go again.
