Very cute looking restaurant. Loved the aesthetic. They have a covered seating area outside which is always a plus! This restaurant also has a parking lot, so no need to have to look for parking on the street! The service was wonderful and their food tasted amazing. We had quite a few dishes that ranged from sea food, to chicken, to steak, and they were all cooked perfectly and tasted great! Their drinks were very strong and very good! The prices are not bad for everything you’re getting. I highly recommend
We have dined at Marea in NYC several times. How exciting to now have Chef Jared in Detroit. Oak and Reel's menu features several of the items that are on Marea's menu but with a unique twist and a more affordable price point. There is an excellent wine list that expands from the usual California Chards and Cabs. Ask the approachable Soms for assistance. Oak and Reel has a friendlier and more relaxed atmosphere than Marea. The diners seemed to respect the restaurant and were dressed nicely. Be prepared to expect a leisurely dinner due to the time that it takes to create a meal of this caliber. Sit back, relax and savor a Michelin star level meal in the D
Great food and service. Try the pastas and octopus app. Room is pretty loud and it’s hard to hear. Safe area, has its own parking garage.
We are seated at the bar, no tables available yet. Christian is waiting on us. Started with two salads, grilled octopus and the fritto misto. $85.86. The sea salt focaccia is decent. Nice texture inside and out. The grilled octopus was decent. Was thinking it wouldn’t be doused in sauce though. Nice char. The fritto misto was also not bad. Lots of little shrimp, a few calamari pieces and two small pieces of fish too. The salads were average, not as flavorful as I had hoped. The service was good, the food wasn’t as amazing as I had thought.
My partner and I were very excited to try this chef Jared Gadbaw's restaurant, and we were disappointed. With the exception of the octopus, the food was very average. We tried the Fritto Misto, Octopus, Sword Fish and the Paccheri. Fritto Misto was greasy and chewy. The Sword Fish was very dry and the Paccheri was ok. Another issue I had was the menu showed a price for the pasta, but once you order, they ask you if you want to upsize it as Entree and they add $15 more to the price. I checked the menu in the website and the only menu that spells this out is the carry-out menu. To top the disappointment with the food was the service. The waiters made mistakes EVERY SINGLE TIME they brought the food to the table. They were "friendly" but it was more on the "I am serving you because I need to, versus, I am happy to be here for you." Although it is not a Micheline Star restaurant, it tells a lot about the quality the chef gives to his patrons. I would not come back.
Hands down…the best restaurant in Detroit. Amazing food and service!
I was hoping to find a Michelin-rated restaurant in Detroit. After researching, I couldn’t find one, however, found that Oak &Reel’s chef/owner had “captained” 2-star restaurants in New York. After my first course (octopus), I knew this was going to be an awesome experience. I had the Dover sole and it was comparable to Le Bernindines in New York. This was a variation that I never tried before. The halibut was also delicious. My daughter thought this was better than Jean George’s (2 star) New York. She had the 30-day dry aged rib-eye and lobster/sausage pasta. Even though my daughter considered this the best food she has ever had and better than Jean Georges, I would say it’s comparable to Le Bernardine. Overall, the chef’s training and experience permeates the menu. He clearly knows what it takes to achieve and maintain Michelin rating. Great atmosphere!
unparalleled presentation of creative cuisine; attentive--not intrusive--service. Everything is melt-in-your mouth delightful! Two options for fixed price menu.
This place is spectacular, I mean really spectacular. It's a shame that Michelin doesn't have a presence in Michigan because this place deserves that level of recognition. The 4 course tasting menu was an absolutely amazing dining experience. The wine was amazing and the drinks in between the courses were exceptional. Too bad I was only in town visiting friends, otherwise I'd come back as often as I can.
