Cutting it right to the chase, Midnight Temple used to be good which is not the case anymore.I had issues with their ordering system and the service in general but I'm going to ignore those in this review and focus on just the food. I don't know what happened to this place, the food taste has changed for the worse. Don't know if they changed the chefs, but 4/5 item we ordered were horrible, with the last item being mediocre at best.1. Samosas: These had a very thick shell gushing with oil with tiny amount of potato stuffing which had a weird taste too.2. Chicken Noodles: Taste was completely off with a bunch of random spices and the chicken wasn't great either.3. Chicken Manchurian: These fried chicken pieces had a thick and extremely hard/chewy texture. Had to spit out a few of those coz I was tired on chewing on them. The chicken was dry on the inside too.4. Chicken Tikka Bites: This comes with two taco like breads with a chicken stir fry in between which had two different colors?! One was orange and the other was yellow, almost like they used two different stuffings. One of the tacos had a bunch of onions and a whopping ONE small piece of chicken. Didn't taste remotely close to chicken tikka.5. Dosa: This probably was the least disgusting item on the menu but was OKAY.I'm not gonna get into the amount charged for these items but this food was disgusting by any standards. Usually I cannot be bothered to write reviews, but this place has a ~4.6 at the time of posting this review which might be highly misleading for customers. If you're fascinated by the outdoor seating-food cart "thela type" vibe this place sells, I'm going to tell you that the food will disappoint you big time and some more if you've even had average versions of these food items before.P.S.: Their Instagram/social media handler deserves a raise for their marketing skills even if the food tastes bad here. Your experience would be straight 180 of how they sell this place to you online.
Amazing food, great ambiance with fun music, and excellent cocktails available as well. Ordered three items, Hakka Noodles, Chicken Tikka Bites, and Masala Dosa. All three were excellent, with the unique flavors showing through for each dish. The coconut chutney complemented the Masala Dosa excellently, taming some of the nice spice found within the Dosa. The noodles.. oh the noodles. The Hakka Noddles are something that I will be dreaming of until I visit next time. They are excellent, packing a ton of flavor that is perfectly balanced while still packing a beautiful punch in every bite, truly excellent. Also ordered a Mango Lassi, which topped the meal off. 10/10 meal, I will absolutely be returning and you should have Midnight Temple at the top of your restaurant bucket list. The Gastropub will have you coming back for more, there is no question about that. Cheers!
I gave this place 1 star because the food was not good and extremely overpriced, but here’s a more detailed explanation for everything:1. I ordered a thali because it was the only item on their menu that night. For $25, it was advertised that I would get a serving for two with a mix of 4 veg and non-veg dishes. The price was steep, but I figured if it feeds two, that’s not terrible. When I got the food, it was clearly not enough for two people. Maybe that works for European folks, but certainly wasn’t enough for me and a friend. There was one roti, maybe 1/4-1/2 cup of rice, and 3-4 servings of veggie and chicken dishes.2. The food was cold. It felt like they threw leftovers on a plate and forgot to microwave it.3. The food was very average, lacking the flavor and spice that makes Indian cuisine special. Honestly, it tasted like the food was meant for a catered lunch event but there was too much prepared and they decided to sell the excess in the evening.4. I will give them props for presentation. The food **looks** phenomenal and their Instagram is fire, but sadly the food did not live up to the hype.Overall, it was a disappointing experience and I feel like I was finessed out of $25. Maybe it was a bad night as many other reviews are good, but I can’t stomach going back at that price point and being severely underwhelmed. Props to them for creating a cool atmosphere but I’d pass next time I want Indian food.
This is my first time ever giving a 1 star review. I didn’t even get my food, ended up having to ask for a refund after waiting 40 mins for my food while watching 3 people who ordered after me get their orders. They don’t have an efficient order tracking system, cooks just stand there looking confused at each other while trying to figure out who’s food they need to make next. Prices aren’t worth it for that kind of service, portions looked really small too for what other people were getting, 1/2lb food trays of just chicken and some sauce for $12 is not worth it in my opinion.
We were passing through Detroit and dame across reviews for Midnight Temple and thought we would give it a try. It’s located in a market area with several food trucks and a distillery. The outdoor seating was awesome. Everyone in the area was enjoying the beautiful summer weather. I ordered samosas, noodles with chicken and shrimp, and chicken tika. All three were super flavorful. The chicken was moist and tender. The spice level can be adjusted and was made exactly to my preference. The guys running the place are friendly and efficient in getting the orders out. I accidentally spilled my drink right when I sat down and a replacement was delivered quickly which he didn’t have to do since it was my fault. I highly recommend this place!!
Awesome location, super nice staff, great vibes, and simply delicious food. Stop by, you won’t regret ????
Located right inside the seating area for Detroit City Distillery, the food is perfect for enjoying with your beverages. Loved the Chicken Manchurian and Hakka Noodles!
Loved the vibe and food! The Indo-Chinese food made me nostalgic. Must try for anyone missing Indian street food!
I was ecstatic to try this place out bc the reviews were promising and I love Indian food but I was left rather disappointed.Pros: interesting menu items, easy ordering system, great locationCons: the smallest portions ever— extremely overpriced for the amount of food you get. One entree for me left me extremely hungry. limited menu and we didn't know they had limited items until we got there (which is ok, we get that circumstances change but I definitely would’ve waited to try it had I known perhaps on their website or something)If the food had larger portions, I would've given it 4 stars bc it's pretty good. But the slightly above average flavor with the small portions coupled with the cost definitely sets it at a 3. I don't know if I would be coming back anytime soon.
Midnight Temple is amazing! Everything is made to order and flavors are out if this world! These guys got their $%[email protected] together. If your in the area for lunch or dinner this is a must!
