I had been craving soul food since I got back to the city but, it’s been hard for me to find a soul food restaurant that didn’t have meat in all of their vegetables and dressing. I was happy af when I was able to order a veggie plate from here. The food was hot, moist, and flavorful. Somebody’s granny threw down on the macaroni and cheese, collard greens, yams, and dressing yesterday (it was all men cooks in the back though lol). But it taste like mother’s cooking. The macaroni definitely brought back memories of my granny’s cooking ❤️ My leftovers was even fire.
I truly feel I should be a food critic!. A week prior to visiting Lapes, I visited another "Soul Food" restaurant, also a carry out.Now both visits were based on anothers opinion. I must say as far as flavor or ethnicity, LAPES was hands down "The Best"!!!. A tad bit more costly, and more than I'd usually spend on restaurant food. But yes I did enjoy it. Portions could have, and maybe should have been more for the price paid. I had a Turkey wing/dressing, Mac & Cheese and Yams?. Made me wish I had cooked so I could get seconds. Next time I'm asked, where u wanna eat?, I'll say Lapes.
I love the food always hot and perfect never no complaints highly recommend for a good meal
We came all the way from Iowa for a concert last night and wanted to try a soul food place. We decided to try the place with less negative reviews and this place did not disappoint. We paid about 60$ and got 4 dinners because we wanted to try it all ?. Food was very good we will definitely be back
Giving 2 stars because of the portions. They really give you a lot for your money BUT I was NOT impressed with the taste. I had the pot roast dinner with Mac & Cheese & Yams. Pot roast was ok, Mac & cheese was dry and unseasoned but the yams were fire. If you need a side of yams, go there.
I will travel far for there soul food..absolutely delicious ? season perfectly..my favorite bake chicken candy yams Mac and cheese and greens..I went from a size 3 to a 5. Lol seriously.
My first time there was worth it delicious every bite I ate enough for the money also real soul food for the soul check them out when ur in the Detroit area.
I had the beef short ribs w mashed potatoes and yams & it was delicious. Next time I'm trying the pot roast which I'm definitely looking forward to.
They had me and my family laughing as soon as we got to order. We only had to wait 15 minutes for the food which isn’t long for fresh hot food. They also forgot two sides but quickly gave them to me before I even got to the front of the line to say what’s wrong. In short great food, time and service.
I don’t know what type of seasoning that is in those blackeyed peas, and ion like that. And they to salty and nasty and ion like that. If I have to add black pepper to homemade mac & cheese it’s nasty. An ion like that. Now these DAMN SMOTHERED TURKEY CHOPS IS ON POINT
