This is an historic hotdog joint I ate at while here in Detroit. The food was very good, it was inexpensive, and the staff was very friendly. What more do you need to say about a hotdog place? If you want to feel the authentic Detroit hotdog experience this is the place to get it.
Excellent food and service! Exactly what you expect from one of the best Coney Islands anywhere. I won't get into the American / Lafayette debate. Trust me when I say, you will certainly have a great Coney at American Coney Island. I have never had a bad experience with them. Sure, sometimes parking may not be available curbside directly in front of them. You won't have to park any real distance from them, parking is available extremely close by. Visit America Coney Island and enjoy an exceptional Coney! The chili fries are great too...
Great location near Westin Book Cadillac Hotel. Was told you should have a coney island hotdog if you are in Detroit. I was not disappointed. The restauant was clean and had that Americana feel to the place. The chili, onion, and mustard dog had a little crunch with a steamed bun. Check this place out if you in the area...its a must.
American Coney Island has my favourite chili!! So good!! Everything they have tastes great, but especially the chili!
The Coney dogs were good and the atmosphere in the restaurant is wonderful. this place is much cleaner inside than Lafayette next door. But I must say I have had better chili dogs elsewhere in other states and prefer Sam's hot dog stands throughout Virginia and West Virginia. They're chili is extraordinary.

Ate at this restaurant I ordered three chili dogs I only ate one dog and my stomach started hurting let’s say I will never go back. They need to redo the hotdogs and the chili. Would not recommend this restaurant for any body who is traveling
The coney sauce is bland as can be the bun is a standard cheap white bread bun and the onions have zero flavor. The service is lame. Really cool building and location but they don’t even compare to Lafayette coney (the original Detroit coney) which is right next door. Save yourself the time and disappointment. Step into the next door and have a real Detroit coney dog.
A great place for a traditional diner hot dog, fries and a Coke. Nothing fancy or gourmet, just the basics!
