This place is just OK. The service we've had the two times we've eaten here has been excellent (same waiter). The brisket and pulled pork is good but nowhere near what you can get in a few places downtown Detroit if you are willing to make the drive. The pulled chicken I did not like, it just tasted not bad but odd, I can't really explain it. I can't speak to the ribs as I've not tried them. The sauces are good. The sides are the biggest disappointment and need a serious upgrade. The green beans are just bad. The fireroasted corn should be on the cob and a lot better. They need sweet potato fries. The other sides we've tried were just average to a little below. The mother clucker (chicken sandwich) is pretty bland. The kids menu needs better options that kids actually want to eat. The outdoor seating and live music is pretty nice if you get a nice day when they have that going on. Prices are too high for the quality of food you get (the sides). It's not exactly the same food options but you can get a lot better southern meal down the street at Bourbons for a little cheaper and the portions are two meals really. If you stick to the beef/pork and fries and want to enjoy a beer while listening to music then it's worth going.
If your thinking about it, don't come here. It took forever to receive the food. When it arrived it was cold. I ordered "flame roasted corn", now when you think of flame roasted corn, you thing of a nice warm corn on the cob right? No, I received a bowl of corn with more onion and green pepper than corn. Owners if your reading this, I want my corn. Anyway, the brisket was not great. Clearly not smoked and overall kinda tasteless. Not a great experience.
Ice box inside. No waters at our table, just silverware's and napkins is all. We have been sitting at our table for over 15 minutes now. Went to talk to a waitress, Hailee, she was folding napkins to ask who is waiting on us, that no one has come to our table for almost 20 minutes. She was going to check for us. She ended up taking our drink orders, since our assigned waitress is too busy with a large party to care about us at all. The same waitress ended up taking our food order since the one assigned to us wasn't planning on coming anytime this hour. Ordered 2 watermelon sangrias, fried catfish with green beans and slaw, pulled chicken with creamy slaw and Mac and cheese, a 1/2 free range chicken with two vinegar slaws. $105.96. My FIL enjoyed his watermelon sangria. I tasted it, it was good. The pig pen fries with the pulled chicken was tasty, cheesy. Dipped in the 911 sauce, makes it yummy. The 911 sauce has some heat to it, but still flavorful. The free range chicken isn't bad, not dry. All of chicken goes well with the 911 sauce here. The pulled chicken meat seems hard and a tad over cooked. The corn bread is drizzled with a bit of honey, it's not dry either and decent, not a lot of corn flavor it it though. Hailee served us well after being blown off by our assigned waitress for over 20 minutes without a single visit or to bring us water at all. She definitely saved the place from getting dock of a star. Food wasn't too bad.
Ordered a ton of BBQ, several sides of BBQ sauce to go with the pulled pork, etc & the sauces never came in the order. Didn’t find out til I got home. Food was decent but can’t give you a good score if you leave parts of my order out. And not driving 15 min back into town to get what y’all forgot. Sauce is crucial for pulled pork.
Our family of four had pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and a burger. I was pretty disappointed in all of the meat. The brisket was almost inedible; chewy and dry. No wonder they serve it with an au jus because otherwise you'd choke on it. My pulled pork was ok but there was aluminum foil mixed in (picture attached). That was a definite turn off. The ribs were overdone. The sides and sauces were fine as was the service. If you know good bbq, you'll want to give this place a pass.
Great place definitely recommend!
Wow! The food was amazing, and there was a nice drink selection. We were pleasantly surprised and will certainly be going back.
Awesome food, whole family loves this place!
Very cool BBQ restaurant with great food. The chicken gumbo is awesome. Homemade everything, Brisket sandwich was great, as was the carrot cake.
This was a delicious experience. It is one of the better barbecue places that we've been to. We bought the combo platter with three options: the brisket, the half a chicken, and the pulled pork besides we got were waffle fries and sweet mash. This was split between two people and more than we both could eat together. We also got the carrot cake that we've ever had. Carrot cake is one of the most difficult cakes to do well, and by far, this was an 8 out of 10. We will be coming here again. Friendly staff!
