I really enjoy this place- used to come here a lot as a kid, though I believe ownership has changed. Recently rediscovered it when I moved back to the area. The food is delicious- my whole fam agrees it’s one of our favorites in the area. I find their chicken and beef to be tender, not chewy/rubbery like many places. Vegetables and ingredients seem fresh and cooked well. If you want spicy you may need to push a bit, as I think they water down for American pallets (most restaurants do), but even when not spicy the food has great flavor! The inside is needing some updates, as other posters have commented, but I still find it charming and the staff quite friendly. I enjoy coming for both dine in and take out, and like ordering off both menus. I recommend giving it a try and supporting a local business :-)
Be careful of your bill!!!!!!The food is ok. When I checked out, they didn’t give the detail. I request and found extra item in my bill. I didn’t order bottled water and nobody give me bottled water. 2 bottled water is on my bill. After I talked to them, they said they cannot refund since the card is already charged. They also charged 15% tips without inform me.
Authentic and delicious. Probably the best place to get spicy beef and tripe in chili oil in town in terms of quality and quantity.
Food was phenomenal. The restaurant BADLY needs to be renovated, it's run down, the bathrooms are DISGUSTING. It was a little sad to see, it used to be a pretty nice place. Atmosphere 0/10. Food, however. 15/10. The best Moo Shu I've ever had, the potstickers were amazing. It's a world above what the old Emerald City was. I really hope they can fix the place up some, but until then, probably better to stick to takeout.
Ypbor Yan is my favorite Chinese place and I highly recommend them. My order is always perfect, fresh, and piping hot and the staff are always kind and accommodating. Their meatless options are delicious! They're also very attentive. I recently ordered two vegetarian "chicken" dishes plus Mapo Tofu, but forgot to ask for no meat in the mapo tofu. They paid attention to my order and noticed that it was otherwise meatless and made sure to clarify that I wanted the mapo tofu meatless as well when I arrived (which I did). Their attentiveness saved me from a wasted meal, and the dish was EXCELLENT. I have gotten takeout from this restaurant dozens of times and have never had anything less than a wonderful experience.
We’ve been coming here for years. I have zero complaints. Food is delicious, service is good, it’s clean. We’ll be eating here for years to come.
We did take out, and it was Thanksgiving, and they were the only Chinese place open. So I can't be too picky. However, it was super expensive for the bland and super chewy beef and broccoli, compared to every other place down washtenaw.I've also never been to a Chinese place that didn't have a combo plate with rice, and or an egg roll. The rice alone was 10$ for a small take out container full which I was shocked when 2 meals, and a thing of rice was over $35 for small takeout containers that were half full of food. They also didn't have egg rolls "today" which again it was a holiday. So that's somewhat understandable. But egg rolls are a must for any Chinese establishment.
The food is good but the service is equally horrible they charge for rice and the servers r not even bothered to serve and they dont serve water for dinning guest and they charge for water as well no silverware ontop this the limits the old waitress is as good as a thief as she without even informing puts tip on her own while charging our credit card which is a fraudSo beware before you dine in here as you never know what you will be charged for.Horrible horrible bad people bad services be careful
Personally speaking, it is the best Chinese food restaurant in Ann Arbor area. The Sichuan style spicy food is especially worth trying. Hope more dishes will available to the customers!
My wife and I stopped in AA tonight to grab a bite to eat. She had to go to the bathroom so we asked where the bathroom was, figuring she could go, while we were waiting to be seated. The hostes asked us to hold on then came around to inquire whether or not we were there to eat. Strange, do you get many middle aged couple wandering in off the street for the sole purpose of using the baylthroom? Entertaining...we told her we were, then she asked us if we had our vaccination cards! The place was empty, now I know why. Its just one of those situations where the foreigner just doesnt get it. Cant tell you about the food, but the customer service tanked in this dirty, poorly run place.
