service was excellent-Food still good but cucumber salad very vinegary unlike before. overall food is still very home made and excellent

We'd never tried this restaurant which was 90% great and 10% frozen. Terrible design HVAC system about froze us to the table. Food was great and the service was excellent. It's a hundred mile drive but we'll be back but wearing sweaters in the summer

Our family was celebrating our nephew's graduation from the UofM. We've been to Metzgers many times with large and small groups but none this big. One can only wonder what kind of experience dinner for twelve will be on one of their bussiest afternoons (following graduation ceremonies). I will assure anyone who might have these reservations about going here on a very busy day to have no fear. My wife and I got to the restaurant early (we live in Ann Arbor) and had a drink in the bar. The bar tender was great. She actually initiated a conversation among three groups who after a few minutes of chatting we all realized that we all knew someone who knew someone. Small world! She even came to our table after we were seated in the dining room and thanked me. Everyone here treats you like family. Not just today but every time we've been here, the waitstaff has been wonderful. Our waitress, JoAnna D lived up to that statement. With the room packed and several other large graduation celebrations simultaneous to ours, it would be easy to be more concerned about how much work it is to take care of a large table. But, here, everyone, from the manager, to the chef to our waitress not only took it all in stride, but exceeded our expectation. Of course, the German specialties were excellent, but we were also very pleased with the excellent food quality and execution of the more American style food like Walleye Salmon, and Chicken. Desserts were great, drinks were generous and the price for all we got was quite reasonable. Prost!!!

Seated by the owner and served by an experienced employee, we enjoyed several different dishes of traditional German foods and some unexpected options. Our friends remembered the French onion soup from another visit and said it lived up to their memory of it as the best they have had. I tried the salmon and it was perfectly prepared. The cucumber and beet side dishes were a fresh option. My husband requested his German potato salad heated, and I ended up eating more than just a sample bite of it, as it was delicious!

I always enjoyed Metzgers but this experience was a bit different. The atmosphere is great. Our waitress Margaret was super. Food was just OK. I had the Weiner schnitzel and it was not cooked. I had to send it back. Prices are more pricey now. Root beer pop $4.25 but a regular cocktail 11.95. Oh the desserts were good but a little slice of apple strudel over $8. Let’s say the quality of food was not worth it. Somehow this restaurant is very different than the past.

This is the tale of two meals. This review is a Dickens to write as I am contrasting two vastly dissimilar meals. I shall describe the better entre first. The Reuben sandwich while ironic was quite good. The corned beef was excellent as was the kraut, bread and dressing. The only mistake was the sauerkraut was not drained adequately and the bottom slice of bread was a soggy mess. The second entre was Schnitzel. It was bland, boring, and greasy. This is not the only part of my German heritage that makes me queasy. The side order of Beet Salad, essentially pickled sliced beets, was excellent. The potato pancakes were terrible. The flavor was dull, lifeless, and greasy. At least the apple sauce was good. The German potato salad seemed of high quality but for me the strong vinegar flavor was off putting. I am torn. One meal could rate a five and the other a one. I guess a three will do. Either way this restaurant is a surprise.

I was looking forward to Wiener Schnitzel for 2 weeks. . . but I was disappointed. It should be relatively thin (in Germany, paper thin)—pounded and very tender; however, mine was not tender, definitely not thin, and I was given pork instead of veal. The beer, spatzen and potato salad are worth the trip, but chefs, please give those schnitzels a few more pounds with the meat tenderizer before you pass them off as true German fare. Excellent service.

If you like AUTHENTIC German food and BIER this place is for you. Forget about Disney, this is MY happiest place on earth.

Authentic German food. l Loved it

It was my first time dining at Metzger's and it was on New Year's Eve, we came from Toledo, Ohio to Ann Arbor to try some good German food and they did not disappoint us. We loved everything about the place, the service was great, the food was amazing and the German beer hit the spot! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great German food. I will definitely be back.
