First of all, I want to say that the food was good. They gave me a fajita salad and it was delicious. However, I ordered a BBQ chicken salad. I also asked for balsamic vinaigrette and I never got it. I didn't want to complain so I ate it. Secondly, the guy cooking on the grill was not so nice to the counter people. It seems there are communication problems. So, if you go there, make sure they repeat the order back to you. Would I drive back to Waltham for this place, probably not.
So I worked at Carl's from 2019-2021. Many of the customers will remember me. I loved our customers so much and I've never worked at place where so many people were so happy and enthusiastic to be there. It was awesome! And I knew that enthusiasm because I had been a customer there for years before working there. And I also genuinely love the owner- Eric. He's a person that really, really cares about & takes care of the people that work for him.Unfortunately, we had to raise to price of subs by $2.00 when the pandemic began. But, I can tell you that the beef producers MORE THAN DOUBLED the price they charged us. We still actively searched out the best meat we could get, and we absolutely made sandwiches of the same size and quality as we always did.I don't work here anymore, but I'm legitimately proud of the time I spent there and the quality of food we made for people. The people I worked with that are still there are wonderful humans that I'm glad I met.And Eric Lando, the owner, is one of the best humans I've ever met or worked for. A really, really good guy that stays in the lives and mentors the people that work for him.And also- Carl's sandwiches are legitimately the best ever. Every sauce is homemade. The beef is the ABSOLUTE BEST AVAILABLE. The portions are MASSIVE.Customers from a few years ago will definitely remember me and I miss you all! You guys are the best!
Sadly, this place is a joke now.On their website, small steak subs are listed as $9.75. When I went in to pick up my sub, I was surprised to find out it actually cost $11.95.No big deal, I thought. The pandemic has been tough and I used to be able to barely finish a small.I opened my sub to find out the sub roll is about half of what is used to be. So, not only has the price risen about 25%, but the portions have been cut in half.I will never be back to this poverty establishment.
Steak sub portions have been cut in half!! Have gone here and TC landos for over past decade, portions had always been immense and of high quality. Where i once could hardly finish a small, same sub leaves me still hungry. This may be the new disappointing norm. Very sad
Unquestionably the best steak n cheese anywhere. I’ve been to South Philly and tried both Pats and Genos. I’ll take real American cheese over cheez whiz Thank You. Not to mention there is no attitude like the above mentioned
Carls has the best chance steak I ever had. I used to work in Waltham and I would get one quite often. Now I am no where near carls and I miss the sandwich so much.
My boy, this was our first time eating here. Had to get the cheese-steak with the peppers and onions!!! Very impressed because I love going to small food chains that pack a huge punch. Very friendly cashiers with an excellent menu all around. You have to build your own sandwich meal so be ready to know exactly what you want!! :)

This place is delicious and it is much more than just steak subs, although that is what they are known for. I ordered a BLT sub from here and it was more bacon than lettuce and tomato which is fine with me, plus the bacon was done just right. The place is a tiny inside but evidently knows what they are doing since their steak sub is very popular. The menu is littered with not only subs but burritos and salads and the prices are just right. I would definitely order from here again!
I been coming here for years and it's still one of the best steak and cheese subs around. The steak is not shaved like others. They're like very small cubed and it's so good and different from others. The large are very big and enough to share if you like. Must try if you're in the area. This place is a staple of Waltham, can't go wrong.
