I've heard nothing but great things about the Continental. What I experienced was far from that. The atmosphere was dark and dingy. It feels as though you walked into the 1970s. We ordered the seafood platter which came out very fishy. Other items came out with a rubbery consistency. My guest spotted the first rat, five minutes into dinner. Then two different rats ran accross my shoes. We were mortified. I asked to speak to the manager as I lost my appetite. Please use caution when dining here. As I believe this place is infested with rodents.
Celebrated our anniversary the other night at the Continental and I must say it was an exceptional experience. Not only was the dinner was served from soup to nuts, the meal itself was outstanding. Our waiter, Robert was awesome, checked on us frequently and never had to ask for additional things. This was our first time eating here and we'll be back soon!!! Great ambiance as well ???
I have been going to the Continental Restaurant since I was a teenager, as it was my mom’s favorite restaurant, and have never had a bad meal there. Today I just wanted to give a big thank you to the management and staff. We had a graduation party for my niece on Saturday, May 14, and the staff couldn’t have been nicer and more professional. We had 24 people and I did not hear one complaint about anything, nothing but compliments all around. Roger, the manager, was working another function that night but made sure to come by and check that everything was to our satisfaction. Our servers were wonderful, Gina and Nicole went above and beyond to make sure everyone had what they wanted or needed. Would highly recommend!
Food was amazing! Atmosphere was comfortable and it was if you were in a movie. I say that because it was an astounding dining room. Waitress was very attentive and she knew the menu inside out. Her suggestions were in formative. I got the sirloin in a garlic butter sauce. It was delish and cook perfectly. And I went with my cousin and we had a great time!
The Continental in Saugus, MA is a time machine that says "the good old days." Nothing much has changed here in a long, long time. Old fashioned, large red leather booths, classic white tablecloth, waiters in black vests with black ties. It looks like a good place for filming an episode of the Sopranos. The menu is heavy with seafood and beef and they still hand out popvers, corn fritters and bean dip as free appetizers which are wonderful. They have prime rib but the prices for a Queen cut are $40 and the king cut $50. A bit pricey. We had a group of six celebrating a birthday and went early enough for two to have the early bid special which is a good deal with salad, main course and dessert. The broiled seafood platter is $35 and includes half a lobster tail and broiled haddock, sole, scallops, shrimp and two stuffed clams. All six meals were reasonably priced, and very good. Total bill before tip was $190 and we ordered some extras including more of those delicious popovers and a couple of additioal soups. Continental is a survivor and I am happy it continues to operate. It was busy on an early Saturday evening and hopefully, will go on for a long, long time. If you want to get into a time machine and experience what fine dining was like 50 years ago, this is the place. It is not avant garde, but the connection with the past is comforting and welcoming. They have a big and active bar, too. Right on the world famous Route 1 in Saugus, give it a try.
Been coming here since the 70s. This is one of the very few classic restaurants remaining in the area.Love the ambience! I typically order seafood and have never been disappointed. They do a great baked stuffed lobster but its huge and with all of the appetizers and sides, it's now too much for my smaller appetite but highly recommend for lobster lovers. They offer early dinner specials now, as well as the Sunday dinners.I was so excited to see a movie is filming here this week...hopefully more people will be inspired to come check it out when they see the movie.
The food is amazing. We have ate there a few times and have never been disappointed. If you are debating where to eat....eat here.
We love going to the Continental for family gatherings, especially birthday's. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the food. Gina our waitress is so efficient and friendly. She helped make our experience very special.
Love this place been going for 40 years! I know they are trying to hang on but never thought I would see the day when they stopped with all the goodies...spinach pie...corn fritters... chicken wings...shame that is no longer
The Continental may look a little outdated, but the food inside is marvelous.Great steaks, baked seafood, excellent hot popovers. Who doesn't luv hot bread. They have great desserts but I never have room. And those little donut holes with that sweet syrup.,..yum
