how is this pizza so good?! Honestly can't remember the last time I had a pizza this delicious!!
Long Over Due review on The Artisan Pig from Oct 2021.Randomly ended up here with the wife and kids on our trip to Plymouth, MA.Searching for something extraordinary in Plymouth and yet classic? This is the place. It's very unassuming, clean, open, and family friendly! To start with they have an A M A Z I N G ! ! ! wood burning oven for the heart of their kitchen. This alone sets the tone and taste of their cuisine and the ambiance that surrounds it. The owner (Andrew & crew) then sets the bar for culinary excellence doing the rest with amazing fresh ingredients , and in-housed products. The Classic Pizza:Pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, & Mike's Hot Honey. The flavors & texture that amalgamated after eating a slice of this, gave my wife an euphoric tantalizing taste bud "high" sending chills down her spine. She's only ever once had that before (with Thai food). Now she's been trying to reproduce this high (chasing it like a fanatic at different restaurants w sweet, savory, & spicy foods) only with fail (and disappointment) every where else we go. The pizzas in general start with a canvas of a well slow fermented dough that is high heat wood burning oven cooked for a crust that has a S P E C T A C U L A R pizza char and lepoarding, delivering that desired bubbling, and smokey crisp with a hint of fermentation flavoring that you want in a slice of pizza. You can use a fork and knife if u want, but that's much like describing this meal to a blind man and letting him smell it instead of put it in his mouth. No! instead, grab, fold, and hold a slice with your hands to eat and you'll get that earthy organic feel of oneness to your food.Caprese Sandwich w/grilled chicken:Fresh Mozzarella, Marinated Tomatoes, Basil Aioli, Greens, Balsamic Reduction, & Grilled Red Onion on a Telera Roll. The oven does for the flavor and char of this chicken sandwich what a Thermador does for a steak (only better), makes me wish that they did this sandwich with some sort of bacon, or grilled juicy red meat (but then they might have to change their name to Artisan Cluck & Oink, or Oink & Moo... ah but i digress). This M O U T H W A T E R I N G Sandwich truly comes together with a profile that hits great high notes in texture from the roll, to the veggies, and chicken, with the punch of driving flavors from the smokey chariness of the chicken coalesced with the Basil and Balsamic nuances, that deliver that tasty goodness leaving you wanting more after that last bite is done. ***Refreshing Ginger & Ginger Pilgrim:Both these ginger beverages were slightly larger than shot sized punches of GINGER Z I N G i n e s s !!! One delivering a minty-limey BANG, and the other a Cranbury-limeo ZOOM ! Need a little pep and immuno-pick-me-up. Here's a drink for u & it paired great w the above meal.Piglet mac&cheese, Grilled Cheese: These are a high quality mac and grilled Cheese. Again done for kids, but the quality in the food, it's there even for the kiddo's . ****** a side note. Some of these meals came with fries.. These fries were very clearly double cooked and well crisped, meaning the fries were fresh, crunchy, crispy, airy, and the way you want a QUALITY "chip"/"Fry". Not left soggy .I tend to think, this is a place that the locals would go to grab a decent meal, away from all the hub bub, all in the meanwhile they're directing you to the typical tourist trapy headlining areas to eat on well advertised broadcast. Skip'em and go here instead, you won't be disappointed.
So, I should admit that I fall victim to a strong recency bias. All too often, I would call my last meal my best. I try to keep it in check for these reviews. That said - I just had the best lunch ever at The Artisan Pig. The chicken popper sandwich I had was super messy, but was perfect. Tasty, crispy fried chicken sandwich full of all kinds of yummy things. Kids shared a huge wood fired cheese pizza. Sauce and dough tasted fresh made for an awesome pie. Wife had the sweet sausage roll. She said the sausage was as good as any she has ever had, and was happy she got the sweet instead of hot because it had some hot peppers and mustard on it. Finished the meal with croissant bread pudding (a weekly special). Really friendly service, and a very cool spot. I suspect we'll make it a point to come here every time we come to Plymouth.
We had a group of 10 for lunch. Great pizza from real pizza oven. Sandwiches were huge and delicious. I will visit again.
Great food, great people, fun atmosphere. I usually get the sweater weather pizza without the proscutto. Its my favorite. Paired with a local beer made strictly for them. AMAZING.Cant decide what to get they have great help to help you figure it out. Love the wood fired pizza.
I've never written a review before but I had to call this out. I ordered the Sausage of the Week which costs $14. This is what the menu says "Rotating sausage, accompaniments, brioche". What I actually received was a hot dog in a grilled hotdog bun with chili on top. How can you try to pass a hotdog off as a sausage, and charge $14 for it? I won't even get started on the fact that they put full anchovies on the caesar salad - most Italian restaurants don't even do that. I'm all for supporting local businesses but may be a first and last for me.Reason for two starts and not one - my wife's gluten free sandwich looked awesome and the truffle fries were to die for.
Welcoming environment, creative menu and well executed dishes. The staff was extremely friendly, the ingredients they used really made the food stand out. I opted for the chorizo verde special sausage, it was cooked perfectly with great flavor. Additionally the portions were generous, our sons kids pizza was enough for two adults. Afterward the waiter spent time to provide suggestions on places to visit in the area.
Great draft beer selection, incredible pizza and very friendly service.
Fantastic brick oven pizza, great atmosphere and service!
The food was great. Love the margarita pizza. The server was so nice. I will be back
