We were the only 3 in the restaurant on a Saturday nite at 7pm. Waitress acted like we were an inconvenience to her. Portions were small and expensive. Most wines were very expensive. I ordered gluten free pasta and it was undercooked Sauce was watery and chicken was a shredded dry breast. My husband said his dinner was excellent. Expected waitress to be actually happy to have business. She brought the 2 regular dinners out and the gluten free one 5 minutes later. Would not return.
Excellent wine selection, Good tiramasu (light and fluffy), and delicious meals. Each of the pasta dishes we got were notable, in particular the frutti de mare.
Good Italian food in Newton Center. The clam and shrimp scampi is the perfect size. The bread is very good. Lemon sorbet is large enough to share. The chicken parmigiana is enormous. Good service. The high top chairs are not comfortable so requested a regular table.
Pleasant, lively ambience. Excellent food. One of Newton's greatest local restaurants.
That was a good place and everything was great. Grilled calamari was awesome. The host was a bit timid and not very welcoming! Other than that we enjoyed the environment and the food.
Key takeaway: this place will serve people that walk in 30 minutes after you’ve sat down before you if they so choose and be very friendly to people around you while ignoring you based on some arbitrary preferences I couldn’t identify. Unless you look exactly like the people that frequent this place (older, academic, classic New England vibes, business men) maybe steer clear. Also the food was very very mediocre, the artichoke chicken was just plain bad, and i’m not just saying that because i’m upset at how i was treated. The wine was good. The order:Cesar salad w chicken - the dressing tasted like it was from a bottleBeef carpaccio - not yummy beefChicken artichoke - tasted disappointingTruffle paperdelle: very mushroomy best dish we tried thoughThe Rundown:I am sitting here now in the restaurant, so frustrated I picked up my phone to write my review now before I decide I am over it. This restaurant with its cute ambiance actually offers the worst service I have experienced in the Boston area so far. I say this because they are blatantly biased in their service and unabashedly play favorites although I’m not sure on what basis. Maybe it’s because I am younger than most people in this restaurant or maybe clearly not from the area or not dressed like a senior academic but this place was so weird in their service, asking people how their food was and awkwardly pausing silently at your table or never bringing your food and being rude about it when you ask where it is… i’m honestly just so disappointed. When I asked where my salad and food was after 45 minutes when two parties behind me arrived later and were eating pasta and i was still waiting on a salad I was met with an awkward o-kay… no explanation, no apology, and yet the food suddenly showed up after I asked. After that the manager walked around and asked everyone how the food was while skipping my table and the waiter pretended the problem never occurred. I should have known things would get weird when the waiter chose to explain what a truffle was to me when I asked if he suggested one dish over another.Suffice to say I will not be returning.
On our date night we decided to stop by here after walking by it so many times. The meal was absolutely delightful, we started with some red wine, bread, and their delicious meatballs & garlic bread. Our main courses were the filet mignon and gnocchi, both were absolutely delicious and we finished off with espresso and some warm chocolate cake!
I’m from ny. Live in newton. Best Italian food for miles. North end in newton
I ordered gluten free carbonara using DoorDash and the food I received was not gluten free. I have celiac and if I eat wheat I will get very sick. When gluten free is an upturn on a menu, it should be top priority to give the person the food that will not make them I’ll. This wasn’t a special instruction, it was an option to choose gluten free. I called the restaurant and they said that I need to contact DoorDash for a refund and the only way for me to get the correct food was to place another order on DoorDash.
Amazing food. The food tasted so good and the service was amazing. Every course was amazing and was perfect. Sorry I am saying the food was good too much. But I mean it was and it was a perfect place to celebrate my birthday. The only thing is it was pretty expensive. So if you are celebrating something I strongly suggest you go and eat at Tartufo.
