Was really looking forward to visiting this renouned roaster/importer's coffee shop. Very disappointing. Best help from the cashier was to read the taste notes on the bags. They no longer offer a cup with a bag of beans. The brewed coffee was so sour and acidic I returned it. The barista offered an americano in exchange. It was so watered down it was hard to find the flavors. The espresso shot probably had channeling. These baristas need better training. They are destroying otherwise excellent coffee beans. The beans produced an excellent cup at home.

Overpriced is being kind and lemon poppy muffin is overcooked dry and tasteless . Coffee nice but nothing special. Still a hole in the wall after two years of pandemic. Love the $75+ offering of coffee beans. Are you kidding?

Ordered a hot decaf, they offered to drip a fresh pot for me. Never received that offer anywhere else in my life. Even though it wasn’t very good, I was very appreciative of the gesture. I also ordered a decaf cold brew, which was, on the other hand, absolutely magnificent. It was possibly the best I’ve had anywhere. This place is worth trying if you’re in the area.

I've come to this spot every now and then when I'm in town for work. The coffee is the best, but ambiance-wise it's less than ideal. For more than two years now the cozy Newtonville cafe everyone liked to sit in at has been operating without any seating whatsoever, no milk bar/condiments, and doesn't allow customer access to their drinks (there is a silly rope that blocks off the counter that's literally a foot away with my drink on it so that someone has to hand it to me that one foot).I don't understand why when I come into one of my favorite coffee shops, it has to be this sterile, uninviting (talking about setup here) experience. Like I'm not paying $7 a drink just to walk into 4 by 4 ft.of space and then promptly have to walk out because they somehow can't get seating. It shouldn't be that hard; you're a coffee shop. I want to add sugar and milk MYSELF.I am so sad about this because this really was one of my favorite coffee shops in the area. I'm really going to really miss this coffee and the atmosphere-- And I know that I speak for multiple other customers when I say this -- but you have been losing customer loyalty over this and I can't support a business that doesn't put its customers wants first ( to open up again). So unfortunately, I won't recommend this particular George Howell location to anyone. If I were you, I would definitely go to the downtown location for seating. So sad to see this from this Newtonville staple.

This place has baristas that actually know how to make espresso drinks. The lattes are ready to drink right away, unlike most places where their baristas scold the heck out of their milk when frothing it. The price is a little expensive, but it’s worth it, amazing coffee. It makes me really sad to see Starbucks and Nero coffee open right around the corner, I hope people will continue to support a local, small business. I mean their coffee is better then any of those guys anyways. I always swing by to grab a coffee when I’m in Newtonville!

The coffee is good, the customer service is appalling. Zero accountability. I used to be a big fan and now I'm going to avoid the brand completely.Never order if you don't live in the USA. They're the only roaster without transparent shipping charges. All their competitors have shipping upon check out.

A pioneer in specialty coffee 1975. This location is convenient with locally made baked goods good tea quality. With indoor seating a couple in front of the store and plenty outside seating and in back of the building as well.

Delicious coffee, you can buy beans or drinks to consume right then. Very nicely decorated and nice outdoor seating options in a great location.

The lavender oat latte is excellent!Such a great Sunday treat!

Really good cappuccino worth the travel from Watertown to Newton. I wish they open a branch in Watertown though.
