Great service and oysters and Fisherman’s soup!!!
Amazing dining experience, great food, great service & great location
Excellent experience, very good variety of selections. Taste, staff, and location was excellent. kudos
What an amazing restaurant! The people that work here definitely know how to run a business. Their old school roasted cod is delicious and lets not even talk about their desserts! I just want to eat everything on their menu. Everything on the menu is fresh. Great price for the amazing meal you get. I went on mothers day and when I saw the number of people I thought I was never going to get my food but I was so wrong not only was the food served in a timely manner but the service was great and the staff was very attentive. If I lived in the area I would be eating here every time I could. If you are looking for a restaurant this is definitely the place to go. Big parking lot is a plus.
Our service was absolutely phenomenal, the food was perfect and looked beautiful! It's always been one of our favorite spots and never disappoints!
Went there yesterday and ordered clam chowder and hot lobster roll which were amazing! Being it was my first time to sit at a bar to eat dinner. The bartender Airelle was the best!!! She went above and beyond. You could tell she loves her job. Thank you, Airelle, for making my "first time eating dinner at the bar" a great one!!
Pretty restaurant right near the New Bedford docks! Went on Valentine's Day for lunch and the views were amazing. They serve complimentary crackers and a house-made salmon spread which was great. When you go here, please get seafood (unless shellfish allergy)! Right at the entry way are Japanese sushi chefs so raw seafood is also a must! I got the chirashi bowl, which had rice and greens underneath a bed of raw seafood. It was delicious! My boyfriend got the cod sandwich and some little necks. The staff are very pleasant and attentive. I overheard a waitress tell another table that they can make dishes gluten free, so if that is a dietary restriction, just ask your waitress. Will definitely plan on going back!
The bar was so busy, the young lady ( Arielle ) is the best. Very accommodating with a smile. These bar girls could use assistance. Love this place and the specials are wonderful. The bar area is fun & friendly ???
I had the opportunity to have dinner at The Black Whale again on Monday, January 24 2022. This was only my second visit and the prior visit was several years ago.The Black Whale is on the waterfront in New Bedford, near the ferry terminal. Parking is free. If you are lucky enough to get a table by the window, you will be rewarded with seeing fishing boats tied up at the docks. New Bedford is a working fishing port that brings in the most, in terms of value, seafood in the whole U.S., so expect fresh seafood at The Black Whale. The Black Whale has sushi, has a raw bar and of course serves seafood. If one is not a seafood person, they have steak and chicken. We were a group of seven. For appetizers, we ordered BOOM BOOM SHRIMP and TRUFFLED MUSHROOM FLATBREAD, along with one other appetizer. I am not a shellfish eater but the Boom Boom Shrimp was fantastic. The Mushroom Flatbread was very good too. The drinks that I sampled were the PAINKILLER, the FALL SANGRIA that had cinnamon sugar on the rim of the glass and the CHATEAU STE. MICHELLE REISLING. I can only comment on my entrée which was GRILLED NY STEAK that had green beans and mac and cheese gratin as its sides. The steak was just as I ordered with garlic butter as opposed to blue cheese butter. The mac and cheese was very good though I would have liked a bit more cheese. I also sampled two desserts—Crème Brulée and Caramel Apple Crisp. The apple crisp was topped with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream. Never tasted or heard of cinnamon ice cream before but it was absolutely great. The apple crisp was quite good too. I love Crème Brulée and flan and the Crème Brulée did not disappoint.I cannot leave out the service but unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of our server but she was great. She was a tall young lady who teaches elementary school during the day and works as a server in a restaurant in the evening. She was very helpful, pleasant and amiable. Our group was there to celebrate a birthday and the server really made the evening special. We also had the opportunity to meet one of the servers from the bar. Another great service person.Overall, everyone had a great time with incredible food, good drinks, good desserts and fantastic service. It was not inexpensive but well worth it. I will have to add The Black Whale to my list of terrific places to dine.I travel and eat out a bit and I am not one to give out a five-star review, if it is undeserved. I have recently given out a three-star review that was mostly because of the location (across from the beach), ambiance and entertainment because the food was not good. The Black Whale more than earned its review rating because of its location (great view of the docks on the waterfront), food, service and the beautiful dining room.
I wish I could give half (or even .75) ratings, because this place would get 4.75 stars. The waitress (Kimbra) didn't hurry us at all despite it being crowded, and was quite helpful. All the wait/bar staff wear masks, which is a huge plus in my opinion (people eating do not have to wear one). The drinks were great (if you like bourbon, get the bourbon renewal, it's delicious and unique), and the atmosphere was laid back. View of the water is a huge plus for me.Seafood was superb, and the succotash with the bacon wrapped scallops was the perfect complement to them. Creme brulee was lovely as well.Only very small caveat was the oyster wash could have been better (little vinegary for my taste), but the oysters themselves were fresh and meaty. Very, very small caveat in an otherwise fabulous experience, but I did want to explain why it wasn't four stars (maybe I should just give a five?). Other than that, it would have gotten five stars. Prices were on-par for what I'd expect at seafood restaurant in 2022. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for seafood place! In the spring/summer, I'd make a reservation if they take them. It was crowded, and it was the dead of winter.
