Stumbled on this place looking for some fried clams on a Sunday night on our way back from the beach. First impression: Inside is HOSPITAL clean. You can look into the open kitchen from the front desk and it’s just clean. It made me excited to eat the food which you could tell was fried in fresh oil. The food was great, portions were massive, and I would definitely come back! Thanks!!

They've always been the most expensive seafood place in the area, but their prices aren't higher by much compared to others in the area and their portions are sized right. The other day though, I was charged $113 for a junior seafood combo, scallop plate, and lobster roll. They would have charged me 4% extra to use a credit card, so I left and got some cash from an ATM.When I returned to pay, they would not give me an itemized receipt to prove what I paid for my food. If there is a menu board in the store, it wouldn't be accurate because the seafood prices change. The menu online certainly is not accurate and is out of date, but that's all I have to go by when I order by phone. For the the amount of money I paid, I should have got proof of what I paid for the items. I could probably file a complaint with the attorney general but I won't bother. A bad review is more effective and less of a hassle.Between the surcharge for credit card orders, which you only find out about when you show up to pay, and their refusal to give me an itemized receipt, I will not return. This place is not operating honestly. I will go to Dube's in Salem instead. Since Dube's has a bar and does plenty of dine-in service, I'm sure I can get an itemized receipt for takeout food and know what I paid for.The food was good enough though.

Ive been eating here off and on for a long time but think this will be my last order. We ordered a lobster roll and junior combo and paid 87 dollars! The tartar sauce is a bit sweet for my taste and the food was cold. They charge 5 dollar delivery and charge you for using a card without telling you. It wasn't until I read my receipt that I noticed there were two service fees. I called to inquire and the woman told me they give a cash discount or charge you the fee that the card company charges them. That's probably something that should be mentioned at the time you order. The food was ok but for the price Bell Isle or Woodmans are better.I would probably rate the food 4 stars if it wasnt cold. The restaurant overall gets 3 because they charged me a fee without telling me or offering a cash discount.

I’ve been going to Charlie’s forever, I grew up in Lynn and my Mother was a clam lover. She would frequentCharlie’s every weekend. All her children followed in her footsteps and came from Cambridge, Methuen and Fitchburg to get the seafood. I’ve noticed in the last 2 visits Charlie’s food had declined. We were down there about 2 months ago and my sisters seafood platter was over cooked. Thankfully the owner was there and my sister spoke to her. She had the cook redo the platter. We went yesterday and got a large clam (which is pricey for the amount they give you. I also ordered fish chowder and a fish sandwich. The clams were lousy and the batter was falling off the bellies. I won’t be visiting Charlie’s for awhile. The cooks during the weekday are much better than the weekend crew. I’ll take my business to Essex which has some good seafood and Liberty Bell in Melrose.

I would frequent more often if the the prices weren't so hard to swallow. Throw some free fries in with the purchase of a 20 dollar fish sandwich, we've already paid for them !Friendly staff,Great food ! Price, not so great.Note to price. I'm not in the restaurant business, my opinion..

Ordered 4:08 was told 45-6o minutes for delivery RECEIVED 5:59 Food was great as always but delivery service I would never use again

I bought a jumbo scallop plate and a crab cake. When I opened the box the fries were kinda soggy , but that wasn't the worst part . The worst part was that my scallops were over cooked . I dont think im gonna be coming back here unfortunately that was alot of money to get screwed out of .... sorry Charlies
