Perhaps my experiences at Finz and a few other spots had jaded me and i expected more after reading the stellar reviews. Not that the food was bad it was not at all I t just was not wonderful, it was average. Our service was very good, but there was nothing memorable about the food at all. It is not a spot that I would return to if I were back in Salem.
Make sure to schedule a reservation if you want a seat inside. The food was average; nothing amazing, not bad either. I ordered the grilled haddock with sides of spinach and mashed cauliflower. The cauliflower had a lot cheese/dairy, so it’s not the best healthy substitute. The spinach and grilled haddock were alright. We also ordered the bacon wrapped scallops as an appetizer. They were definitely the best part of the visit.
If you haven't been, you are missing out on one of the best seafood places in America. I come from Jacksonville, FL and get fresh caught right off the boat. Turners have top shelf chefs.
The best fish and chips I have ever had
A local recommended this place so we decided to give it a try. Our waitress was so attentive and friendly! Definitely top notch service along with amazing food. I had the lobster Pie and it was delicious! We were there on a Wednesday afternoon so it wasn't too crowded but I'm sure on busy nights you might need reservations. If you love seafood then you definitely want to make a stop here for dinner
We stopped here for an early dinner. We didn't have reservations but we were able to sit at the bar and eat. The food was excellent! I had the fish and chips - battered haddock and fries- very tasty and fresh! My husband had the shrimp/scallop medley. the seafood was awesome- very fresh and cooked to perfection. The prices are a little higher than some of the other pubs in the area but it is worth it!
This is my second visit to Turners, and definitely not my last. I am a solo diner and was treat with courtesy and respect by the hostess and the server. You could not ask for better! I treated myself to a martini, which was prepared as requested and delicious, and onion strings as a starter. If you are a fan of onion rings, this is a must-order...piping hot and light on the coating. They were great--I was glad I didn't have to share! I was really looking forward to my entree, finnan haddie, and was a little disappointed by the preparation, which was weirdly sweet. I expect salty and smoky and a rich cream sauce. Those elements were in the dish but the overpowering taste was sugary. The green beans/red peppers that accompanied the fish were superb. The pinot grgio I ordered was cold and flinty...perfect to cut the richness of the sauce. I did not make an issue of the fish because everything and everyone else was so nice--but I would not order it again. Desserts looked run-of-the-mill, but who goes to a fish place for dessert--especially in a town where there's a great bakery, candy store, or ice cream place practically on every block.
It was hopping last night! With my wife for dinner at the bar and it was very good! Lobster roll was spot on in its toasted buttered roll! Fish sandwich was huge and a nice selection of wines. Bar staff very attentive with very good service. Without a doubt the best ambiance in Salem or surrounding towns!
Excellent fresh seafood with wonderful service in a convenient location. I stop in every time I go to Gloucester now. I love that you can order online and pick up in the store as well. Thank you for providing the community with an amazing product!
Stopped here after a day at the beach. Amazing seafood. Cooked lobster meat was outstanding, tuna was the freshest I've ever had...literally, and the fishcakes were incredible. I only wish I lived closer.
