great food and friendly staff.
nice workers and atmosphere. I would highly recommend it
I want to first say Thank You for the amazing experience! My girlfriend recommended this place which I’ve driven by so many times but have never gone in.Some nice features is that they are located across from Alewife Station which gives access to the redline. It also is located right at the start of route 2 and alewife parkway for even more convenience. There are multiple parking lots outside which means no hassle to find parking! The occasion was my 22nd birthday and we decided to go and have seafood here at Summer Shack! The hostess’s were very kind as they sat us further away from what seemed to be a work party at the bar section that were a bit loud. I find this courteous to the guests as it shows respect to parties who would prefer to avoid larger crowds. The drinks were great and the appetizers were delicious! We started off with clams and oysters both on the half shell. All the raw seafood was FRESH and flavorful!I’ve always been a seafood guy and it was my special day so I got a 1 1/2 pound lobster which was full of meat! For the people who are like “it’s too much work to get the meat out and it’s too messy” please, just order off the kids menu if you want to complain. Some of us enjoy the excitement in eating lobster. For dessert, i got a slice of cheesecake with a candle to blow out on top which was an amazing touch! We also had a youngster with us which they provided coloring paper and extra napkins which is another thumbs up for me!I would like to thank the Summer Shack staff for such an amazing 22nd birthday experience and would highly recommend for any celebration or just a night out!Look forward to coming back!best regards,Benjamin P.
Food was excellent and our waitress Paula was wonderful. We had apps, drinks, entrees, and deserts. Will definitely return when we are in Cambridge again.
Picturesque, uncomplicated seafood and fish diner. The staff was very friendly and attentive, although we had to wait a bit for the food as the place was packed. We went for dinner with work colleagues on a weekday, but without booking we might not have had a place to sit. The fried fish was good but not amazing. Lobster roll was also good, but the best dish, in my view, were the oysters. Prices are somewhat on the higher side. Rather hot and greasy atmosphere indoors. A little bit far if you don't drive there, although there's a blue bikes and subway stations nearby.
Food decent, atmosphere nice. Prices higher than expected but probably exacerbated by the absolutely terrible service. literally one of three tables in the place and had to get up to ask for butter, waited for check, my drink sat empty. For 80 dollars for two lobster rolls, i expected better service to be honest.
Seafood is super fresh.all of the dishes we ordered are yummy yummy! Nicely cooked and balanced seasoned.
Looks can be deceiving! This place looks like a shack, but serves like a five-star restaurant! The crab cake sandwich, at a whopping $38, was worth every penny! The fish tacos were delicious and filling. The entire meal was outstanding, and anyone looking for quality seafood should visit this restaurant.
I've been coming here for many years. Mainly I go to the bar for sports with friends, but I've also eaten here at least a dozen times. The good: the food is good, it's a fun atmosphere, we often bring visitors here because you can get "Boston seafood" and the quality is reliable. Some faves: fish tacos, fish and chips, pasta with shrimp, wings, raw bar oysters, clam chowder, and do note they have sushi specials on Monday night. The sushi is good, although not mind-blowing. Prices are a bit higher than you might want, but that's true almost anywhere. I'd say it's almost fairly priced for what you get. Now on to the bar, which is what cost this place a point in my rating: meh. Service is a bit spotty, but mainly the problem is the prices are on par with high-end cocktail places but the quality is not. Cheap sour mix, non-tasty margaritas, some bartenders will top off an old-fashioned with club soda: just, no. I come here because it's close to me and it has a large parking lot, which is important in Cambridge/Somerville, esp. in the winter. But the cocktail program needs to step up a notch. And this is not a recent, covid-era development. It's always been this way.
Great place to bring the family. The staff is super nice and the food was pretty good overall. I thought some of it was a little too salty and greasy but not terrible for the price.
