The hot food was all excellent, especially the Turkish breakfast. The pastries were also excellent. Sofra had a little store inside where you can purchase some unique ingredients. They have some seating outside.
Sofra never disappoints! Be prepared to wait in line, but know it's worth it!
I bought $60 of pastries at Sofra today. My first visit. The praline pecan croissant was very tasty, but the 3 rhubarb pastry were not proofed properly and unfortunately had an undercooked dough. I bought 3 of these at $5 per, so not very happy about spending $15 on uncooked pastry. Do you see the condensed mass of dough. This is supposed to be fluffy and cooked on the bottom. Whoever is in charge of this pastry doesn’t know how to make this.
Pastries, coffee and service are outstanding. Also some 'grocery' specialty items that are hard to find. Breakfast not so much; very small portions for the price. Photos on website show indoor seating but that was pre Covid. Outdoor sidewalk tables available only. Difficult small parking lot but doable with care and patience. Very little parking close by otherwise.
This is truly excellent Turkish food delivered at haute cuisine levels of execution. You must have anything baked - boreks, galettes were out of this world. The gigante white bean salad and the baba ghanoush are classic and yet better than any you have ever had. Ana Sortun is ridiculously gifted.
The food. I can't. This place keeps giving and giving. I'll wait in your line and freez my butts off! Turkish breakfast is a symphony of flavors and textures, from fresh crisp cukes to goat cheese cubes fried to perfection. Did I tell you about that gorgeous nested egg with a sunshine of a gooey center. How do you make something so seemingly simple so exciting and life changing?! The pastries are a phenomenal blend of unique combinations, my fav is that tahini doughnut. The egg sandwich has recently changed, with addition of homemade zoug- still perfect. I want it now and always. All of it. Much love to you and the whole Trifecta.
Sofra's food is as excellent today as it was 10 years ago when I first gave it five stars. But I was shocked today (December 2021) to find that they are not taking full COVID precautions. Sure, both the hard-working staff and the customers are masked, but why do they allow so many people into this tiny space at a time? Why don't they limit the indoor ordering line to, say, 5 people, and then have people wait outside for their order to be ready? For that matter, it's a pity that they've discontinued online ordering. I'll guess that their operational systems weren't up to managing the volume, but perhaps they could improve their systems to spread out the ordering load over a longer period?Again, I love the food here, but I'm disappointed that they aren't protecting the health of their staff and customers as aggressively as they could. Even with three shots (which I have), there are real risks.
Absolute gem in our community! Love Sofra for fresh food and provisions. Visits here are a highlight of the week! Everything they make is consistently delicious and interesting. All of the pastries they make with their crossaint dough taste like a gift from the heavens. The NY Times only highlighted what every local already knew -Sofra is fantastic!
Exceptional bakery!!! I had a perfect Gallette with zucchini and goat cheese made with Maine rye. It was as close to perfect as it gets. If it were warm it would have been even more sublime. I also tried a pumpkin and jam turnover which was truly delicious, and a Syrian shortbread cookie with raspberry filling that was as good as shortbread gets. Cudos to this cafe bakery. There are SO MANY bad bakeries in the U.S.A. that a truly good one should be applauded. Bravo!!
I love everything about this place except that I don't have a car and they don't deliver ;) It's a little bit awkward to get to their cafe by bus. BUT, so flavorful, so inventive, and reminds me of delicious meals from distant travels. Boston needs more places like this! Please open up another location closer to downtown :) You will have a faithful following.
