Japanese Seafood Izakaya

Popped into this restaurant after noticing it across the street from Lamplighter and extremely glad we did! Cozy ambiance, delicious food and excellent hospitality. The specials menu featured the fresh raw toro available and the oyster mushrooms were full of flavor. I would highly recommend the strawberry tapioca pudding to top off your meal. This is an excellent spot for a yummy bite!

Came for snacks and a drink and it was a cute place! Pretty small but generally the appetizers were quite good, albeit small.May not be the most filling but was generally tasty

You guy should change the name of this restaurant to JUDY’S BAR.If you come for great food, you will be disappointed. This is totally a bar for white people, LOUD but Japanese decorated ?Sake chicken:Soft, salty, doesn’t have too much flavor but Sake wine after taste.Sesame salad:OkRibs:Sorry but this dish is nothing special, may I say mediocre.Clean table and seats is good, but you don’t want to have a dinner at a bar, right? And pricey for the quality too

This restaurant's clientele is clearly white people who don't know Asian food but likes appear interesting by going to a pseudo Asian restaurant. It claims to be Japanese but the menu is a hodgepodge of the most basic Chinese, Korean, and Japanese dishes. Plain "Kimchi" is on the menu for $4. There is one sushi-like dish: $15 for two pieces. Dishes are over-priced and in extremely small servings. We ordered a sashimi-over-rice (Japanese) and classic Chinese-style ginger steamed fish. It is neither good for Japanese standards nor good for Chinese standards. The waiters are unprofessional and chaotic. Everyone tries to do everything: serving, waiting, ordering, cleaning. We waited 20+ minutes at the door with a reservation. The waiter told me a reservation doesn't guarantee you a seat. If so, why bother with the reservation?

Set in a cozy and intimate atmosphere, Judy’s Bay offers one of the best Japanese Izakaya experience in the Greater Boston area.Recently took a visit for dinner, and was impressed with the overall experience. We started off the meal with some yamitsuki cabbage and the uni scallop bites. The cabbage had a hint of saltiness and a prominent seasame oil flavor that made it quite addicting. The uni scallop bites were topped with a slice of perilla leaf which gave them an aromatic aftertaste, and they were certainly excellent complements to the drinks we ordered.Flavor profiles of the meat dishes weren’t unique as they are commonly used in East Asian countries, but their execution was certainly top notch. The sweet barbecue glaze of the miso ribs and the pork belly was decadent, and the sake chicken was extremely tender. The thinly sliced cabbages that came along with it also gave a nice contrast in texture as it was crunchy and refreshing. Depending on your preference, the chicken may be a little bland, but I thought it was a perfect demonstration of the Japanese style of cooking. The star of the meal was the lobster roe pasta with uni. Although I was almost full by the time it came out, I couldn’t resist taking another bite. Lobster roe, butter creme sauce, and the uni had a varying degree of butteriness, and the addition of lemon juice created a unique but balanced flavor profile which I loved.Overall, a fantastic new addition to the neighborhood, and I would certainly return to try their other menus. If you’re looking for a place to unwind and relax in a comforting ambience with impeccable food and drinks, this is the place to go.

4 stars is great and I would go back without hesitation. Friendly, professional and knowledgeable staff, a table visit from the chef checking in and wonderful food. The space is small and efficiently laid out. The fireplace makes it especially nice on a winter night. Food is creative and delicious with high quality ingredients often from local sources. They also have a great sake menu and flights for those interested in learning more about the varieties. The yuzu sake was my surprise favorite. The mussels were a standout dish: perfectly cooked with a seasoning I had not expected and found to be delicious. The mushrooms were great too. Fried rice with onset egg was surprisingly complex, ribs were cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the raw scallop and uni bites were beautiful little packages of textural wonder.

Absolutely lovely! The food was delicious, and the service was kind and quick! It's a nice, chill, and cozy environment, and I deeply appreciate the little baskets they have under your table to put your hats and gloves and scarves in. It's little things like this that make the experience!

Great experience. Lovely atmosphere and excellent food (esp the fried rice and specials), well balanced cocktails. Really lovely addition to the neighborhood!

Great environment and service. Food was excellent; standouts were the lobster pasta, salmon skin skewers, and mussels. Can’t wait to go back.

Great little place. Haven't had a chance to eat there in person yet, but we ordered take out and it was fantastic. Supposedly the miso ribs were a temporary menu item, but I'm really hoping they come back because they were easily some of the best ribs I've ever had. It's a tough time to open a new restaurant, but I'm glad to have them in the neighborhood!
