Used to absolutely love the in-person experience here (omakase was amazing), but unfortunately the to-go experience is not nearly as good. The food just isn't the same, which makes sense with sushi because of the travel time. It's very frustrating that they are still only open to-go at this point in time. It's time to open back up, guys.
Used to be my favorite place in Cambridge for sushi - updating the review though because that was based on their in person experience. They are still to-go only as of April 2022, and unfortunately it isn’t the same as it used to be. The quality of their to go orders doesn’t compare to the omakase experience they used to have in person. It certainly isn’t bad, but what you get for the price isn’t near the experience level that the non-to-go used to be
I would give this place 100 stars if I could. They deliver every single time. We used to go pre-covid, but they are currently only doing takeout which we've had a handful of times over the past couple of years. We usually get a bunch of rolls, so I'm not as familiar with the platters. Every single time the food is fresh and consistent. The flavors and quality are unmatched. Really just SO GOOD.
So insanely good and not as expensive as the other best sushi places in greater boston. The chefs sampler is on the pricey end of the menu but is so insanely good - five pieces of nigiri with excellent fish and perfectly matched subtle toppings
Sushi, chef’s special, fish collar, etc.
Used to be my favorite sushi place to go. We must have tried all the rolls and hand rolls on their menu by now. But their prices have increased so much (repeatedly) over the past several years, that at this point it is not worth it.
I tried Cafe Sushi for the first time tonight and it completely exceeded my expectations. I ordered it through delivery to indulge in after a nine month pregnancy sushi drought. After eating hospital food for a while, I was especially looking forward to it, but often get disappointed when trying new restaurants because most struggle to accommodate my gluten allergy. All of the dishes I ordered were not only exceptionally fresh, delicious and well composed, but completely safe. They were carefully labeled with stickers and notes on the receipt to confirm careful prep. None of the dishes felt like they were missing key ingredients (it's clearly not one of those places that accommodates allergies by taking half of the ingredients out of the dish or telling you that you can "just have an salad"). There were special, seasonal and local ingredients in the dishes and a huge variety of flavors. The fish had that buttery texture you only get in the best places. I would say it was exactly the meal I was dreaming about and hoping to have post baby, but it was even better than that. Thank you so much Cafe Sushi!
On my trip to Boston I started to crave sushi- go figure ;). I was staying by Harvard and so I Googled sushi places and Cafe Sushi came up. It had pretty decent reviews so I decided to take a walk around campus and stop by for lunch. The restaurant was a little ways off campus but overall not a far walk. It is on a fairly busy street with easy access but I didn't see much parking besides on the street. Anyway I was hoping to sit down to eat but the restaurant at the time was take out only. Not a big deal but if you are looking for a sit down place this is not an option. Things are constantly changing so as of this writing they may have reopened to dining in so I'd call ahead just in case.Anyway, ordering can be done online or at the window. I ordered and paid at the upstairs window and proceeded to wait. This is the same area all online orders are to be picked up too. It took about 15 minutes for them to make my lunch and I then proceeded to head back to my hotel. The chirashi bowl I got for lunch was great. It had a decent amount of fresh fish and pickled sides. There was a fair amount of rice that really made it filling. The Wasabi they included with the meal was also very hot and flavorful. There were a lot of other standard items on the lunch menu but I always go for the chirashi bowl.If you are looking for good sushi at a reasonable price I definitely recommend Cafe Sushi if you are in the area.
Best sushis in the Greater Boston Area! Amazing flavors, some subtle (sucha as truffle), others explosive. Everything is extremely refined, for example the gioza’s dough is really thin and melts in your mouth.
One would never expect a place named cafe sushi to have awesome fish, but I'm so happy to be wrong! I've eaten a lot of great sushi living in California and cafe sushi is my go-to in the area. The boxes for 2 are a great deal (both weeknight and weekend versions).
