My husband and I were in Boston for the weekend and decided to try Kane's because of all the hype online about it having the best donuts in Boston, the country, etc. We love donuts, and I heard there was a Creme Brulee donut, so I was sold. The shop has super friendly staff, the donuts are displayed well, and ordering is easy through the line. However, the donuts are just okay. Truly, there is nothing special to them, and I must say we've had far better donuts (especially in Richmond, VA...yum). My husband got the whoopie pie donut which honestly being from PA (the home of whoopie pies), we expected a lot. The donut essentially is just called a whoopie pie because it's two glazed donuts with creme in the middle and sprinkles. That's not really a whoopie pie (where's the chocolate, am I right?). The white creme was okay, but honestly a bit flavorless. I got the Creme brulee donut. First of all, these donuts are the size of your head. So, you are better off splitting one or eating it with a fork the way I had to. Anyway, the donut was beautiful with a brulee on top, but I was expecting a gorgeous creme brulee tasting filling. Nope. Bland, vanilla pudding type filling. No taste again, and to be honest the donut was pretty hard. It tasted like it was made days prior. All in all, the people were nice enough, but the donuts ABSOLUTELY DO NOT live up to the hype. Save your money. Not that flavorful, and certainly not even close to the best donuts I've ever eaten. Creative, but just simply not that good.
Busy! Delicious! Wish I had bought more.The donuts were light and the flavors were great. Chocolate donuts were less "greasy". Highly recommended checking them out.Gf donuts are kept separate from others. Staff changes gloves before serving the gf. Very pleased.
After a disappointing experience on my first visit, I came back to give them another try. Along with the honey glazed donuts, I got the Cinnamon roll, chocolate glazed, Oreo, and the blueberry donuts. However, they were still not good enough to change my initial impressions.The donuts here didn’t quite have the refined taste that I was looking for. The textures were nice and fluffy, but I couldn’t get over the starchy flavor due to the overwhelming excess of dough. The smaller donuts such as the Oreo or the chocolate glazed donuts were better, but the large cinnamon rolls or the glazed donuts had too much dough on their edges.If you’re looking for a filling breakfast, this might be a good option. However, I’m still not convinced that their donuts are the best in the state.
The honey donut is super good! I’m glad I was convinced by one of the people working there to get it. They have so many donut options and I hope to try more soon. The flavor is just perfect as it is not overly sweet. I will be coming back
On my way to grab some pizza I saw this donut shop and bought their turtle donut ($4).It was very good and the toppings/glaze were unbelievable. I believe this was a cake donut, not old fashioned.Also, it was not small at all. Great value.

Nice selection of donuts - the gluten free selection is a welcome novelty - and very nice coffee (not always a given in the States!). While there are no seats for dine-in, the nearby port area has plenty of public benches.

I have eaten here several times but it has been at least 4 years since my last visit and nothing has changed. I LOVE this place, especially the Honey donut and the Maple Bacon donut. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the Maple Bacon this time, well they had gluten-free. I got one just to taste it and it was good but not as good as the regular gluten version. I never knew gluten tasted so GOOD. To make up for the Maple Bacon I had 2 Honey donuts and they were AMAZING!!! I am so glad I don't live in Boston or I would live on these donuts. I hope it is not 4 years before I get to eat another one!!!!
