I have to be honest, I was expecting a little bit more from this place. Many friends have been here and sang their praises for the lobster roll, so I finally ordered one.I got the large hot/butter lobster roll with a side of coleslaw. The quantity and quality of ingredients were not the problem, the issue was not enough seasoning. The slaw and the lobster lacked seasoning. I feel like the lobster wasn't seasoned at all. The bread is also not a traditional hot dog roll, and more like a sub.I definitely want to go in person and try again, but as of right now... meh.
It has The best lobsters in town.. very fresh and off water just before you eat it. It can get really crowded and long lines so be there before it peaks. Nice seating area outside with tents and benches. The food is very expensive but tastes great. Order regular roll and have butter shared. Nice place and great location. Have good merch as well.
It’s so disappointing watching a business attentively manage their tourist-trade social media presence while ignoring their local customers. Instead of publicly shaming a business that has been reliable in the past, I chose to email them directly. I messaged about the rotten mussels they sold me on a Saturday afternoon. As the picture shows, two pounds were bought (though they weighed in at less) and three quarters were dead or broken. Understandably, we tossed the rest; we’d rather not get sick. I promptly emailed. I waited. Then I followed up a week later but still got zero response. My guess is going public will magically receive one. An apology at best? Or a ‘we’ll replace them.’ But how does that make-up for travel, a ruined dinner, zero response, and the fact that unlabeled, rotten mussels are being sold to customers? Short answer, it doesn’t. But luckily, the delicious mussels bought from Whole Foods for a third less sure did. And it’s where we’ll be sure to get ours next time. Sorry, James & Co., you had your chances.
After trying all the lobster rolls in Boston for a trip. I am glad I made it here before I left. I was initially hesitant to come here assuming it is a tourist trap, but it's the best in Boston without a doubt. The perfect amount of everything in what should be in a lobster roll with lobster piled high. The clam chowder was good but not the best. Definitely sets the bar high for what should be expected out of a lobster roll and clam chowder. If you plan to get a roll, get the extras lobster for the few additional dollars. I'll definitely be back to try other aspects of the menu.
We were here 2 months ago when they weren’t able to fleece tourists. It was excellent. Ordered a large lobster roll that was indeed large. This time around it was about 100 degrees inside and 20 or so unhappy customers waiting way too long for their food. I ordered a large $38 lobster roll again and was served a small roll. ( I knew this because my wife had the exact same size small roll last time we were here). I brought the roll to the guy that takes the order and said I ordered a large roll while showing him what I had. He said “ that’s a large now, the manager changed it”. I asked to speak to a manager. He waved someone down who shook his head and kept walking to the back. The lobster was dried out and tasteless and had obviously been prepped earlier, probably the day before. This place now sucks and there are far better options through the city.
An authentic small restaurant with good seating outside. Pretty straightforward and nice staff. The food was excellent.
Anyone we've asked around, this place was consistently mentioned in the Top 3, so we definitely prioritized it and glad we did. We went on a Friday afternoon, right after we did the Harvard tour and the Harvard Museum of Natural History so we were pretty excited, plus it was a sunny (but windy day!).Initially went for the truck and it was a bit confusing because I thought we could also order there but he then said to order inside and he's just a truck. Anyway, went inside and saw the live lobsters which were super cool. My husband and I both ordered the large hot lobster rolls with butter, a small cup of clam chowder and a crab cake to share plus 2 sodas. The lobster rolls alone were $38 each so yep it adds up pretty quickly. Come prepared. :)After around 10 mins of so or wait which we honestly didn't mind, we went outside to soak up all the sun and enjoy our food. The lobster rolls were good but I felt it wasn't really particularly tasty, almost lacking in flavor. However you have the hot butter and the lobster meat was pretty generous, so I'd still say it's worth it. We actually ended up really enjoying the chowder as it was delicious. The crab cake was okay, we asked for lemon and once we drizzled some on it, it was so much better.Overall, it's in pretty good location too and seems to be one of the local favorites to get your lobster and chowder fix. :)
BADa$$ lobster rolls. Thank goodness I don’t live close. I would be there daily we even went back for breakfast haha when they opened at 10. Offer large and regular lobster rolls. With butter or Mayo. LOVED the Mayo more than the butter but both were amazing. DO NOT BE DETERRED BY THE COST! Worth every penny then some. A lot of other variety of things to eat but could get past the 2lb lobster rolls!
Coming from las vegas I was determined to find a good Lobster roll and this was definitely the perfect spot to go to. When I went there was pretty much no wait and the food was great!
I don’t think I’ve ever been so disappointed! This place did not live up to the reviews; the food is JUST OK at best! And it’s incredibly expensive. Here’s what we had:Warm Lobster Roll with butter - ? no flavorCold Lobster Roll with Mayo - ? no flavorCrab cakes- AWFUL ???Clam chowder- UNremarkableMaybe Bostonians just really like any and all Lobster rolls but I can assure you, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!The one good thing I can say about this spot is that the food comes out super fast which supports my opinion- there ain’t no love in anything served here! The food matches the ambiance- BLAH!
