Here’s why I give this place one star:1. Cleanliness and decor2. Whole fish is not whole, the fish fillets are nicely carved out and not part of the dish. Both sides of the fish lack the fillet part. I cannot believe they charged us for a whole fish! This is practically cheating. Please don’t do this, people are not stupid.
The Tea Smoke Duck was extremely dry. It tasted like it was cooked the day before. No sauce was served with it. I was disappointed. I would not order that again. The Lomein was good and tasty. I would come back for the Lomein.
The waitress tried to shake us down for a tip, then the restaurant lied about the tip to my credit card company. When we sat down, we asked the waitress to recommend some dishes. She recommended the most expensive dishes on the menu--fair enough, I thought, as she will be getting a percentage for her tip. When we ordered two dishes, she told us that the kitchen was so busy that we can only order once, so we better order three dishes as two would probably not be enough. We took her advice.Three enormous dishes arrive, far more than two people can possibly eat in one sitting. Annoyed that she has caused us to spend significantly more than necessary on dinner, I gave her a 10% tip. She returned and complained about the tip, spending many minutes telling us how busy and exhausting her job was, and how her boss would yell at her if she only got such a small tip. Because I had signed the receipt, she aimed her performance of hardship at my friend across the table. Exhausted by her attempt to complain her way to a higher tip, I eliminated the tip altogether. The restaurant billed my credit card for a tip anyway.
I had high hopes for this food. Where’s the flavor???? My food was bland. They didn’t provide adequate duck sauce, mustard or soy.The pork fried rice was horrible. I asked for no eggs and it was mostly eggs. General Tso’s chicken tasted like moth balls. I’m so so so disappointed. $60.00 bucks worth of yuck.
Least tasteful & authentic Chinese food in the whole Chinatown. Service is horrible.
We went here for lunch, and the food was excellent. The portions were huge, and the flavors were fantastic. My broth from my wonton soup was very flavorful, the chicken was crispy, and the lo mein noodles were really great. I would definitely recommend this spot.
5 stars for 5 spice! Goto place if you have a larger group, they have an upstairs that can seat larger tables. Great Sichuan food, spiced well, American Chinese options as well. Good for meat eaters and vegetarians/vegans alike.
every time we go to or take out from Five Spices it makes us very happy. tonight's meal was at such a high level across five dishes that i felt i had to write this review. cumin lamb, sichuan chicken, pea stems in garlic, pork and cabbage dumplings, all superb. i have no idea what could have caused the poor food and service that led to recent bad reviews, but we love this restaurant and have never had a bad experience.
If you want dumplings, please go to the restaurant next to this! We ordered pork dumplings and it was rubbery and chewy. Every bite reminded me of Gourmet dumpling house and why I didn't go there. We tried the Dry pot fish fillet, it was decent. Nothing wow. The fried rice was about Ok. Overall, I'd not recommend this place. There are better Sichuan eateries out there. Also there's this 15% mandatory tip which I find absurd.
Great food! Portions were plentiful. Drink selection could be better, but there are loads of bars around if needed.
