This was my first ramen experience and I'm glad that I selected this Sushi Jin. The appetizers were delicious, Takoyaki and fire mussels. I was tempted to order another round of both, but knew I need to save space for the Ramen. I had the Spicy Jin Ramen and my sister had the Kimchi Ramen. While my ramen was not as spicy as I would have liked, the flavor was great. Of course I couldn't leave without trying the sushi. I loved the Ikura, but wasn't a fan of the Tako Sashimi ( no fault of the restaurant).Being in Silver Spring, the restaurant is small and seating is tight, but don't let that dissuade you from an amazing dining experience. I can't wait to go back!
The man that attended as my group entered asked how many people were in my group. He proceeded on asking if I was the person that called trying to make a reservation. I was not the person that called but it was my sister and proceeded in saying that she was rude. I asked why he would first, tell me that and he answered that someone had to know. Unprofessional, much? He continued to talk about my sister and I knew well that she was not rude because she had told me before that when she called she had asked if two tables could be put together and he answered that he could not predict how many people would come in with an awful tone. Mind you, this was after the lunch rush. He continued to belittle my sister without her being there and kept talking and being inappropriate. I have heard this person is rude and deserves to be put on the spot. He doesn’t deserve to be manager and will run off more customers with his ill-mannered remarks. I will not be back unless Kim is removed from his position/ restaurant.
The rolls are the real specialty here and I would not venture much beyond that. Not sure about anything else on the menu. The ramen, in particular is pretty bad. Most recently, got a bowl of the chashu ramen. There literally was nearly a whole coarsely chopped raw onion in the bowl. I've never seen such a thing and hope to never again.
By far the best location for sushi in Silver Spring! The staff was incredible and the food was sensational. The selection of rolls is extensive and freshly prepared. The Gyoza had the perfect crispy golden texture and was paired with a semi sweet sauce. Highly recommend!
Had the misfortune of making a lunch booking at Sushi Jin on Mar 26, 2022 for a relative's birthday. The space is so cramped and dingy, there was no space to go inside to announce our arrival. The guy at the door was barely coping with takeaway orders and did not notice us waiting outside even though I stuck my head inside several times trying to get his attention to let him know we had arrived ahead of our reservation. He then proceeded to seat another table ahead of us even though we had a reservation! When I addressed this with him, he had a very arrogant attitude. Even some of the people waiting for takeout were offended commented on how poorly he spoke to me as a PAYING customer. We were eventually seated almost 25 minutes after arriving just ahead of time for our booking. Normally, I would have been tempted to create a scene or walk out, but I decided not to spoil my aunt's birthday. I must say I don't know what all the fuss is about. The sushi is subpar at best and the staff have nowhere to go so stand alongside the table and watch you while you are eating. Management is haughty and I will actively discourage anyone I know from supporting your establishment. It is a pity that so many places with better food and customer service had to close over COVID when this still remains. If giving you zero stars was an option, that's what you would get.
I have been going to Sushi Jin for many years and I think their food is great, which is why it makes me sad to write this review. I have been a loyal, long-time customer and I even deliberately increased my orders from them to support them during the pandemic - come to find out, they don't care about their customers at all. On 3/25/22 I called in to order some food to pick up. When I began asking questions about the sushi options, the man who answered the phone rudely told me to download the menu and call back. This man is actually the manager and I recognized his voice from the many times I have dined there. He's generally not a very nice person, so I didn't worry about his attitude too much. I've actually seen this man berate a customer for not tipping him. It's possible the customer didn't tip because this guy is so rude. Anyway I told him I would call back, but before I even finished my sentence he hung up on me. So, I called back asking why he had hung up on me and he hung up on me again. I called back and he ignored the call a few times. When he finally answered again, I tried to explain that I really love Sushi Jin, and that I couldn't understand why he was being so rude. He said, 'do you want good food or good service?' then hung up again. My son really wanted sushi, so I asked him to make the order from his phone. When I arrived to pick it up, I asked the manager why he had been so rude to me. He told me that if I wanted good customer service I should go to a hotel. He explained that he was really busy and said that I was the one being rude. I asked for an apology and he refused. I told him that he was going to lose a long-time customer and he said that he didn't care what I did. At this point I actually started feeling kind of hurt by the disrespect. I'm a Black woman and started getting that feeling that one gets when a person actually shows disdain for you. I hate that feeling, but I asked him if he had a problem with Black people - because he was so disrespectful and dismissive that it started to feel like racism and/or sexism. Instead of responding to my question, he asked me if this was, 'Asian hate?' I'm not sure why he said that since he was the one disrespecting me - not the other way around. Since I couldn't get an apology, I asked to speak to the owner. He said the owner is his brother - indicating that I basically had no recourse - no way to hold him accountable. Apparently Sushi Jin is doing so well that they don't have to be nice at all to their customers. I can't believe that I can no longer go to a restaurant that I have frequented for over 10 years. Honestly, I can't believe the guy treated me this way. He just literally did not care at all that he had offended me...did not care that he lost a customer, and didn't care how his actions impacted me and my family at all.
I am very disappointed in their bulgogi don. Way too much sauce and oil. The meat is soaked, the rice is soaked. See my first picture after I dig a hole in the rice, there is a puddle of oil inside. I couldn't taste anything else other than strong sauce. I asked for a cup of hot water intended to water down the miso soup base for the ramen noodle for my daughter. Ended up using this cup to wash off sauce on each piece of meat. The ramen is also salty, but I guess that is expected for ramen and I usually water the soup base down to match my preference. But this time the waiter was too busy to swing by often.Plus we are in a hurry. So I didn't brother to ask for another cup of hot water. We did wait for quiet a while to get our food. They are very very busy with take out orders. Although their grilled pork in ramen soup is tasty with very good texture. One of the best grilled pork in ramen I had in DC area. (That is why I gave a 3 instead of 2) But the half egg in ramen is hard boiled, which to me isn't very authentic. We also ordered the shiitake mushroom roll. It is ok. Mushroom is marinated so couldn't really taste any mushrooms flavor. When we got home, both my husband and I felt unsettled in our stomach. We also drank tons of water but still felt thirsty. I think this place could be good if you only order ramen and sushi. But I don't think I can convince my husband to come here again.
Been wanting to go for quite some time since I have a great fondness for Japanese cuisine. I'm so glad that I went! It's an adorable little restaurant that almost makes you feel as though you're right in Japan. The staff are very nice, the young lady that waited on me was, I'm sorry, but she was just too adorable! She had a bit of a hard time hearing what I wanted to order and I thought it was the cutest thing. Clean and tidy, the atmosphere wasn't stuffy at all, you could enjoy your meal without feeling pressured.I ordered the takoyaki, having wanted to try it for the longest time and it was mega delicious! But what had me sold was the donburi tofu teriyaki. That was incredible! I love tofu and this was so soft, the tempura coating had a gentle crisp and it just melted into your mouth!I also had Kirin, one of the few Japanese beers that they have available and though I'm not a beer fan, I loved this one. It want too heavy and it tasted rather well with donburi tofu.I highly recommend coming here if you want a relaxed atmosphere and delicious food.
The restaurant was extremely small. There were only about 8 tables. The female waitresses were very nice. The male Asian waiter was extremely rude and unapologetic when I asked him if I could order another dish. He asked me what was wrong and I told him that the ramen didn't taste very good. The chicken ramen broth taste like it was just boiled with a lot of onions and barely any chicken. It needed true chicken stock.Leaving a poor review because of because of the way the asian male waiter (who never gave his name) handled the exchange of the food- He offered no apologies and when ordering the new dish he simply put it on the table and walked away with no words spoken.I've had much better service at the Woodbridge location.I advise anyone looking for good chicken ramen to go to Another location or another Ramen spot in the area
Owners are EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL. Have no manners. There are other sushi restaurants, PLEASE TAKE YOUR MONEY somewhere it would be BETTER APPRECIATED.For insight: They treat this restaurant like a carry out joint. Once walked in and said “we close in less than an hour” (I thought we’d have enough time to eat 45 mins is a lot of time) and the man said he’d kick us out if we’re not done by then. Also, ROACHES. I saw a roach in plain sight, screamed, and nobody checked in to see what the fuss was. I saw roaches, and no one bothered to change my seat or anything.
