I had high expectations for this restaurant since it has really good reviews in both google and yelp. The place looked really fancy and staffs were friendly, but they are definitely room for improvements. I ordered makuuchi course menu for two and wagyu. Food was good but the portion of it was way too little. Wagyu was slices way too thin for my taste. They have a great drink menu tho.
Wow! Amazing food and atmosphere. This has got to be my favorite Japanese BBQ. The appetizers, the soft shell crab, gyuzo shumai and chicken karagee were to die for. The soft shell crab was perfectly made and came with a yummy sauce. The gyuzo shumai was so filling and absolutely delicious, you need to try it! The chicken karagee reminded me of a chick-fil-a style chicken but even better. For the main course I had the A5 Short Rib Waygu which came with a delicious truffle salt that you should put on your waygu as you eat it. The duck was perfect! And the gyuzo steak was made in the most flavorsome marinade that you must try! Overall I had a wonderful and deliciously filling dinner here, this is a perfect place for a date. It's always crowded so make sure that you have a reservation or you might miss out!
This is a LOVELY restaurant with many options on the menu and some of the best waygu meats ( a bit pricy) but plenty of other options like sushi. My husband and I ordered sashimi & sushi and I was really amazed at how the rolls had a LOT LESS rise than at other restaurants. I was very glad to see this since I am dieting and too much rise is not on my diet. The owner & servers went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and to give us what we really wanted to try. Overall it was a very nice meal with a bottle of great white wine. We plan to bring my youngest son here for his birthday in a couple of weeks. This is a very busy and popular place so I recommend you make reservations in advance.
A great choice for a late dinner! I ate here with my 30+ y.o. son who had just flown in from Colorado. It was nearly 9PM, and he was getting "hangry." I needed to help get that hunger satisfied fast. Gyuzo Japanese BBQ did not disappoint! Despite the crowded bar and dining area, the host staff got us seated, and the wait staff helped us select our meal. We're both athletic, and both are hearty eaters, so we ordered the Komu-Subi multi-course meal for two at $99. It seemed pricey, but turned out to be a bargain for the amount of food. The first course consisted of soup, kaarage (fried chicken), gyoza (dumplings), a trio of dipping sauces (all were great), Japanese curry rice, and a leafy green salad (light dressing; could have been more flavorful, but a nice complement to the other items). The second course consisted of items for grilling on the hibachi: assorted vegetables (yam, zucchini, and green pepper) and a great variety of meats: prime boneless short rib, Gyuzo steak, shrimp, skirt steak, filet mignon, brisket, and chicken thighs. White rice was a nice accompaniment. A pleasant duo of sweet bean and matcha flavored mochi capped off the meal. We were seated at 9:00 PM and closed down the place with our departure at 10:55 PM. It wasn't a cheap dinner, but the friendly and attentive staff, food quality and quantity, and novelty of grilling your own food, made it all worth the cost. I highly recommend making reservations, and ask for a booth. It'll make for a more intimate setting and a slightly quieter meal. The booth comfortably seats four people. Enjoy!
Wagyu beef awesome, cozy place
Definitely the best Japanese BBQ that I’ve tried in the DMV area. Portions are smaller and reasonably priced. The ambiance is upbeat and the interior has a really sleek design. Definitely call ahead, as it can get pretty crowded through Thursday to Sunday.
As a Asian dude who’s really into Japanese BBQ, I always enjoy eating in Gyuzo. I’ve been to Japan for several times and I would say this is one of the most AUTHENTIC Japanese BBQ in the area… or even in the States! The lunch and dinner set totally worth it. With a reasonable price you can get a decent amount of food with high quality. Meat is super fresh and grill is super hot. Other than that, I also like the squid fried rice and the seafood ramen there. I would recommend making reservations ahead since they are very popular especially on the weekends.
It doesn't get much better for me as a Rockville resident. Enjoy a Sunday of ice skating in the square and then sit down to some delicious grilled meats, and fresh Japanese cuisine. They have a new sushi and sashimi menu which I could not help but try. You don't have to worry about consistency (at least for the grilled meat), since you are the chef! There is no need to get the waygu or more expensive cuts, as even the hanger steak, gyuzo steak, and skirt steak all taste fantastic. Alternating between the three sauces keeps the taste buds excited and asking for more. Two out of the three times I went, the servers were very friendly and talkative. One of the times the young man was not very attentive and did not brush oil onto the grill grate, but typically the service is great.
The best Wagyu steak I’ve ever had. It’s very pricy but it’s really good. My son loved it. The server told me that the wagyu beef is grade 5 which is the highest grade. The appetizers are great. The mussels is a little spicy for me but it’s good. I liked the soft shell crab. The fried chicken is kind of plain. The mochi dessert that we cooked is interesting. The mochi cubes are hard, once we cooked them they start to puffed up. Then you dip them in honey. The server had to cook the wagyu for us, I guess they didn’t want to risk we might over cook it.
Had a decent date night experience, had the Komu-Subi, wasn’t a bad experience and would recommend to friends and family. Our server was very enthusiastic and pushed us from the start. The only thing I would’ve changed is actually ordering what we had planned on/wanted to try. Although the Komu-subi was amazing, we originally wanted to order individual items to include appetizers.
