I didn’t like the dismissive attitude towards my question on the green vegetation. I’m allergic to artichokes (not insinuating that Asians use this vegetable but I had to be sure), so when I asked what it contained, I was faced with a short and curt answer. I then repeated what I heard (what I thought was cabbage) and started to feel really itchy. The person repeated what I barely heard while walking away from me. I hope I wasn’t being a burden about question that could prevent me from entering an urgent care or an ER. I don’t want to misunderstand about artichokes because that will be a very big problem if I ingest that. I just felt wary and nervous overall. For what it’s worth, it’s a 4 star Asian carryout. I also didn’t know they only took cash, so I had to finagle my Venmo which I don’t normally use. For what it’s worth, the noodles are somewhat fresh.
My go to place for beef noodle soup. Broth is relatively spicy and flavorful. You can choose either flat or thin noodles. I personally like thin noodle better. Beef chunks are really tender and perfectly complement the soup. I also ordered pan fried pork dumplings and dan dan noodle. Both dishes were really good too. Service was just okay. Definitely has room for improvements. Parking spaces can be limited depends on what time you get there. They used to only accept cash, but I believe they now use venom for the payment. I highly recommend this place if you are craving spicy beef noodle soup.
This Chinese restaurant served fresh sichuan spicy noodles. The pork-chop over rice taste good and minced pork over rice with egg.
While the hand made noodles are super chewy and have excellent texture and taste (make sure you order wide noodles and not the thin ones), the side dishes that we ordered were lacking. The pan fried dumplings were on the greasy side and stuck together and the filling was under seasoned. The Peking beef wrap was really disappointing. In other restaurants, I’ve had it with cucumber and scallion and scallion pancake. Here, it was filled with shredded carrot and cilantro (and the requisite beef) but just doesn’t hold a candle to beef wraps I’ve had in other Taiwanese restaurants. That said, for the area (DMV) This place is a good place to go to. I also find it overpriced for what you get but I’m spoiled as I do come from Vancouver Canada where they have the best Asian food ever. I do love however that they take venmo! Yay!
Food is tasteless and service is bad. We ordered two beef noodles and a steamed pork bun. Already finished the beef noodles and we told them multiple times we no longer want the pork bun since it's taking too long. Completely ignore us. Already gave us the bill and still charged us for the pork bun. After telling them that we didn't get the pork bun and we no longer want them, they insist for us to take it home and pay for something we no longer want. The server gave a nasty attitude and said "next time don't order." How about next time, don't take 40 min to serve us 4 pieces of steamed pork buns.. the beef noodle Soups are tasteless. The only taste I ever tasted was the cilantro.
Good quality of food that's all I can say.As some one who's pass traveling with my family I can say that the customer service in this restaurant takes away all the credit for the quality of the food. If you are a tourist and don't know about the cultures culinary this is definitely not the place to learn.
Great dim sum, usually a wait but worth it
A&J is the real deal authentic Chinese spot. You’re not going to find general tso’s chicken here. Consistently good food in a small, no frills place. There’s a fair bit of variety from noodles, soups, dumplings to fried chicken. Cash only but they accept Venmo payments too. It gets busy on the weekends because of the popular breakfast menu. Overall, a great affordable option in the Rockville area.
We've been coming here for years, but during Covid it fell out of our rotation. So glad to be back - now they take venmo, and it looks like there are delivery options too. I decided to go the old fashioned route - I showed up, placed my order by circling items on the paper menu (slightly lower than the online platform prices), got a bubble tea next door, and waited. I did take advantage of the venmo though. When I came back to pick up they gave me a pot of tea as they finished up. We always get the same - cucumbers, scallion pancake, pork dumplings and braised pork on rice (at least two so we have leftovers). We usually rotate in a noodle (dan dan, hot and sour, beef soup) too. Sooooooo delicious. Thank you A&J!
A super legit Chinese restaurant. Small family own, Szechwan style, so a lot of spicy food. Noodles but really good, prices are super reasonable but cash only. So be prepared if you wanna try! I recommend this place if you want to try real Szechwan food!
