We had a great meal at Schula's. We started with the Muscles, which were served in a delicious broth. The bread is dangerously delicious. Our drinks were kept full. The Ceasars salad was crisp and served in an oblong bowl. Our entrees of fried scallops and stuffed flounder were really tasty, served hot and plated nicely. The waitress Donna was excellent, with just the right amount of attention. She was always there when we wanted anything. Overall, a great dinner with excellent service in a nice atmosphere.
My husband and I live in Pennsylvania. We drove to Maryland to eat somewhere different to celebrate our anniversary. This place exceeds all of its excellent reviews and well worth the drive. Our waitress was very well trained on the menu. I highly recommend the mozzarella wedges and mussels as appetizers and their pomegranate margarita as a cocktail. The restaurant serves fresh warm bread as you wait for your main course. Both of our meals (jumbo crab cake and chicken alfredo) were fresh and delicious. We ended our meal with a slice of peanut butter pie, which was ok. We would definitely dine here again!
Service was not fast or friendly. I was dining alone and I was ignored by the server until I spoke up. The lobster roll sandwich was bland and I believe imitation lobster was used. It cost $21.95 and the lettuce was wilted and tomato not ripe. At least the $8.00 Bloody Mary was okay and so were the hush puppies. I will not go back. I regret not taking a photo of the sandwich.
Mason Dixon combo: crabcake was all lump crab, lobster was tender and sweet and filet was cooked just right. Calamari appetizer tender & tasty Waitress and staff pleasant and helpful.
I ordered a very large meal for takeout for Mother’s Day- about 15 meals. Everything from the ordering process with Fran to pick up at the exact time we set could not have been better. Every single item was packaged perfectly and delicious! Thank you Schula's for taking all of the stress out of food prep for Mother’s Day! Tina Stowell
I love seafood. This place has lobster tails ( when available ) that makes your mouth water .And the crab cake is excellent too.Best to make a reservation , because it is not a chain type restaurant , it's an authentic real meals prepared there local business.Casual relaxed dining, even has outdoor seating too.
Love the steamed clams, best ever! More importantly they care about customers.I normally get two dozen steamed clams. I was there about six weeks ago and they had Baked Clam Special, not Clams Casino but close.I got one dozen steamed clams and tried the special. In my opinion it was nasty! Clam was cold and dish wax overall to salty. I love salt but this was the WOW factor. I ate one only because no place to spit out. I paid for and thought nothing of it. One senior staff said my younger waitress should have not charged me. I already paid and figured just do not order next time. Sometimes the dish is not liked.Fast forward and they gave me discount tonight of the same cost of special I hated. I did not ask for this nor did I expect it but it was so nice. The senior wait person recognized me, sent a manager to me to discuss. I appreciated but still told the manager no problem, it happens. My bill was still reduced, they CARE about customers .
My husband and I wanted to try a new place (we're new to town) and the reviews here on Trip Advisor convinced us to try it for lunch. It's tucked in the back of a shopping strip, but the map app took us straight there. There's a patio we'd love to try on a pretty day. Service was fast and friendly. I asked the server whether to order grilled shrimp or the shrimp and bacon sandwich. She suggested the sandwich as being the grilled shrimp PLUS bacon and sandwich fixins. Good choice. My husband got the fish tacos, which is a portion of 2. I got sweet potato fries as my side and he got a HUGE side Caesar salad. It was as big as some dinner salads. The "cup" of FABULOUS crab soup came in a bowl, not cup. Good thing, because I ate almost half of his order. Delicious and full of crab. Next time, I may order a bowl as my meal. We both enjoyed our selections. We definitely plan a return trip.
I guess it was about five or six years ago that I first and last visited Schula's. Our neighbors were thoughtful enough to show my wife and me "the ropes" restaurant-wise. Schula's was one of their favorites. Our experience? Ick. And our neighbors -- terribly embarrassed -- agreed. So here we were, hungry in Hagerstown, running errands around lunchtime. We agreed to give Schula's a chance to redeem itself. And that's exactly what it did. My wife started with crab bisque that was absolutely outstanding. I had French onion soup that was excellent, although maybe a tad too salty. My wife, a salt lover, thought I was nuts. She had shrimp salad for a main and I had the ahi tuna appetizer as my main. The shrimp salad was delish, and my tuna -- perhaps a tiny bit tooo salty -- was likewise excellent. ("What do you mean too salty?" my wife asked me incredulously.} The interior of the restaurant is nothing to write home about, but it seemed fresh, open, and inviting. The service was outstanding. The bar selections were excellent. Bottom line: We'll definitely be back, and sooner than five or six years from now.
This place is a bit pricey but hey, you have to pay to get great seafood. The stuffed flounder was easily a 10 out of 10. Unbelievable sauce! The crab cake was also very good. The steak fries were not good. Tasted like straight out of the freezer. The cream of crab soup was underwhelmingly flavored. While I'm not a chef, I can crush the flavor of this soup with my own recipe. They were out of Angry Orchard. That crushed my spirit as well. I felt like the seating was really cramped as I was stuck in a tight corner as they struggled to accommodate a party of 8. Overall, good not great experience.
