This was our first visit to El Ranchero. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful inside with all the gleaming wood, and the atmosphere is nice. We were greeted quickly and the host was very kind. That is about where the good stuff ends. Our server was Jose, and he was a jerk. He made it clear he was there to take our order, and that was all he was going to do. We didn't even get a hello out of him. Now, we did see all other servers interact with their guests, so Jose is not an example of the overall service at El Ranchero. The food was okay, but it wasn't memorable. My shrimp were overcooked and the seasonings just weren't there. The guacamole and queso were very good. The salsa tasted like a cheap store brand and was very disappointing. Their prices were reasonable for the amount of food we received. There are several choices of good Mexican food in Hagerstown so we did expect better than this. I am sure we will give it another try sometime in the future, but for now we will choose somewhere else.
When you arrive at the brightly colored building with only a few cars parked outside, you wonder if you arrived at the right place. Once you are inside, and look at the menu, it is clear you have. You are sure to find the familiar words of "guacamole", "tacos" and "burritos", but if you look futher you are sure find something interesting. Notible mentions are the Ceviche, Chilaquiles, and Tacos de Carne Asada. A great place for traditional Mexican fare; Turns out, we were just a half hour ahead of the lunch crowd.
The mix dip was a little thin, but the salsa was great. The chips weren't bad and came out quickly and warm. The tacos weren't great, but the chicken filling for the chimichangas was excellent. Our server was nice enough but kept bringing other tables items to our table then handing us one thing before leaving with the rest. She once took a drink to refill and a few minutes later had to be asked to bring it back. It's certainly not a place I'd go out of my way to return to.
We used to go to the Wesel Blvd location years ago and always remembered it as a yummy, festive place. Our favorite thing on the menu has always been the sopa azteca (tortilla soup). It's absolutely amazing and super flavorful. Unfortunately, we were not impressed with the dual highway location (this was our first time). It lacked ambiance and the service was very slow. The soup was good but was missing some of the original ingredients. I'm also not a fan of the red sauce they put over their burritos and other items. I'm sure it's authentic and there are folks who love it. I personally think it tastes like spaghetti sauce. I will say that El Ranchero's chips and salsa are the BEST in town.
Really cool place!Tasty margaritas, not expensive, good food, fresh guacamole, really friendly service! We sat at the bar and we had a lot of fun, I am sure we will come back in there!
My friends and I had lunch. I ordered taco salad and requested some avacado with it. They forgot the avacado when they brought the salad. I figured I would just ask to have it taken off the cheque if it was on it. They remembered and brought it so no issues. The salad had good flavor. The wait staff were very helpful.
The food was delicious. Friendly service. Would have given them a 5 but our server was asked two times for the cheese dip for our chips but never got it. He apologized when we got our bill that he forgot.
Not the best. Limited menu. Chicken was different from the last time we went there. It was bland, hard as a rock and sent me straight to the bathroom. Manager did not seem to care when he was told and it perhaps quality of food handling is suffering due to that. Won’t eat here again. Plenty of other Restaurants in the area.
We had a very good meal here didn't realize the place was so big. Staff were on top of their game. My drink, chips and salsa never ran out. Can't wait to go again.
They didn’t receive my online order. So they had it made within 10 minutes. Very accommodations and nice about it. Very pleased :)
