With so many sushi places in Montgomery County, honestly not so sure what's the fanfare about Yoyogi is all about. I'll give it another chance but can't recommend it right now.The sushi:The fish were mostly fresh but the tuna was tough and definitely not the freshest. High point was the saba, which was actually pickled as it is supposed to be.The sushi rice was a major let down. Flavorless and hard, I almost compared it to supermarket sushi rice. Good sushi rice is essential to good sushi, and with the quality of rice presented today, I can't recommend anyone get the sushi here until they fix this problem. The tempura:The batter was flat instead of flaky, more akin to traditional tempura and had good flavor. I would order this again but don't expect flaky batter.
Sushi rolls are great here! Would come back and just get rolls next time. Really good filling to rice ratio and good value!Nigiri was okay. The salmon in the nigiri is not firm like fresh salmon is, probably pre-frozen.Fried items are pretty bready, wouldnt recommend them except for the calamari. Also, takeout only and online ordering only.
Their rolls are good. They are not as expensive. However, this place offers only sushi/rolls/sashimi and only for a takeout for a mobile order. You can't walk in and order. You can't order by phone or sit with a chair and a table (there is grass nearby good for a picnic though).3 stars: because of sittingAnd ordering
Honestly, this place used to be the best place for sushi in Gaithersburg. A year before Covid something changed, maybe new management or owners (since none of the old staff is there) But ever since then customer service has took a deep dive downward. They don’t take calls or take in person orders anymore and the quality of the food has declined as well. I miss the old yoyogi. People used to wait in line around the parking lot to get their sushi. Shame…
I've been going to Yoyogi sushi for almost 8+ years, and it's always been my favorite. They have the best Philadelphia Rolls. Very generous on the fillings, they don't skimp out on the fish! Amazingly affordable and delicious. If you're not a big fan of sushi, that's okay! They have amazing dishes from soups, cutlets, and tempura. I always get the chicken with rice, very crispy. And if you want something sweet they offer ice cream mochi. As of now, Feburary 2022, it's only takeout. As much as I miss eating inside Yoyogi sushi, it's still worth the trip.
Yoyogi has been my number one go to sushi restaurant for 11 years. I will never order California roll when I go out to eat sushi at other places but they figured out the secret recipe because oh my God. So good. Also, where else could you possibly find a spider roll that only costs $4.75?! Super nice staff. Fantastic sushi.
Yoyogi Sushi is one of my favorite places to order food from. Their sushi is always fresh, the order is always ready by the time I arrive to pick up, and the value is exceptional. They keep the menu options simple which apparently enables them to focus on the quality of those items.
Sashimi is fresh, deep fried chicken udon is average, but shrimp and vegetables tempura is more like deep fried instead of tempura, FYI the two are different way of cooking. Tempura should be much thinner batter
The jumbo tofu is our favorite food to order and their sushi are made in refresh. Not see other near by Sushi stores have more reasonable price than Yoyogi.
Love this place. Great value. Great food. Cheaper than grocery store sushi but much tastier. Great service. Overall wonderful and compared to other places in the area…the best. They are very busy…which is a good thing! A busy local restaurant during the pandemic? that’s a sign of a good restaurant!
