Really tasty yet a little expensive. Owner really cool!
The food may be good, but I wouldn’t know because I kept getting ghosted by the owner. I called the restaurant to order trays of food for a reunion bbq I’m having. I spoke to the owner who said to deal with him directly. He gave me his number and instructed me to text him my order, so that he can give me a price. Never heard back fromhim. I called Mr. Mackie to get a price and he said he will send it to me the following day. He didn't. This went on 3 times, so I decided to move on to another restaurant. His poor customer service cost him an $1000.00 catering order. Because of this, I won’t even eat here.
I visited their Gaithersburg location and thought I had made a wrong turn. I had some trouble finding it and was a bit surprised when I did. They’re located in an industrial type storefront that at first glance does not look like any restaurants would be and you can easily drive right past it. They do have another location in Frederick. I ordered the ribs and brisket. All I can say is this location is a hidden gem. The food was amazing! The ribs were so flavorful and tender and the brisket was cooked to perfection. Mackie’s will become a staple. Don’t let the location deter you. The food is so worth it that you will not regret it. I will be back!
If you haven’t tried Mackie's you should! They are tucked away off of Oakmont Avenue and have incredible BBQ. I've gotten take out from there several times and it is does not disappoint. I've also gotten ribs there for a party and they were demolished quickly. If you are looking for fresh BBQ, then you've found the right place! ?
Pretty disappointing unfortunately. $20 for a brisket sandwich with 3 small half pieces of brisket. I’m pretty bummed to feel like I wasted money. They also declined to honor a coupon because the manager wasn’t there. I wouldn’t recommend.Also just to mention, this is a catering kitchen, not a storefront, so walk in ordering is not allowed. I was told to go outside and order from my phone.
5 stars all around. This place was delicious and the people were friendly and accommodating. I will definitely be back any chance I get and I will be sending everyone I know here!
We are super picky with barbecue and have to say that this is some of the best we have had - ever. It was absolutely delicious. Also, the customer service is excellent. We will certainly be back!

Excellent pulled pork sandwich and the cornbread was kinda sweet and moist. I liked everything.
If the industrial storefront with one rickety picnic table out front wasn't enough to give us pause about Mackie's Southern BBQ in Gaithersburg, the almost complete lack of interior furnishings made us wonder if we were even in the right place.We had been to the Mackie's location in Frederick, but were unaware that this Gaithersburg location was primarily for catering. When we approached the maitre d' stand, which was a white folding table with a single laminated menu lying crooked upon it, a man appeared from the back room and greeted us in a friendly manner. He explained that they had performed several catering jobs that day and gave us a rundown of the items they had available (it was not the full menu). We ordered beef brisket sandwiches, mac and cheese, and potato salad. ?The sandwich was tangy and filling, the mac and cheese was particularly flavorful and the potato salad was delicious. Free waters were brought out to us as we sat at the outside table, bundled up against a winter breeze. Like we said the maitre d’ was so friendly!It's always those unassuming, no frills spots that end up being some of the tastiest. Definitely a spot we’ll return to! ??
