Frank Pepe Pizzeria. A great place to get a pizza pie. It's cooked in a coal oven, so your pizza maybe burnt a little bit. The pizza itself is great. All the ingredients are fresh. Depending on how far you live, you should eat at the restaurant, because it's fresh and hot, but that's just me. Other than that, you be the judge and try them out.
My family ordered Frank Pepe's for the first time ever tonight to celebrate July 4th. We were really excited because we've been through New Haven many times but haven't ever stopped to see what all the local fuss is about. As such, we were very excited to see a location open near our home in Maryland. We ordered a cheese and a pepperoni pizza. I think it's worth 2/5 stars for the following reasons:Pros:The pepperoni pizza (pictured) actually tasted alright. The pepperonis themselves were delicious, and I loved that the pizza was stacked with layers of it. Overall, I was impressed for a burnt pizza but compared to other pepperoni pizzas in the area, it was just mediocre.Cons:1. The price is pretty high. Not a problem for high-quality pizza, but there are various better local options that cost less.2. As you can see, the pepperoni pizza was burnt. I wouldn't serve this to a customer. Surprisingly, the cheese pizza wasn't nearly as burnt but it tasted awful compared to the pepperoni.3. We tried to get delivery, but received a message that volume was too high. Not a big deal.. it's a holiday. I'd ding 1 star for that.Overall: Don't recommend. I wanted to believe the hype, but the quality of the pizza just didn't seem very good.
If you ever wanted to try New Haven still pizza this is your spot. I found it absolutely delicious. Just be cautious. It is piping hot when it's brought to your table.
Pizza was fantastic and service was great. I lived in ct for 3 years (worked in new haven) so frank pepes was my instant fav. Being back in md for the past two years has been awful in terms of pizza quality. When the Bethesda frank pepes opened up I was super excited. The pizza was amazing and just how i remembered it.
Great if you're into New Haven style pizza. Might not be for everyone (my wife says the char makes it taste burnt) but i thought it was great.
Frank Pepe's has been on my radar for a while after their white clam pizza was proclaimed as the best in the country. I visited the Bethesda location and the pizza doesn't disappoint. Located in Montgomery Mall (adjacent to Cheesecake Factory), they offer both outdoor seating and inside looking into the open kitchen. After reading other people's reviews, I ordered the 12" white clam pizza with extra garlic and no char on the bottom of the crust. I sprinkled some crushed red pepper and parm to my pizza and I was speechless from the first bite. The crust was perfectly crunchy and the use of fresh clams really make this a fantastic pizza. I took the leftovers home and ate it for two more meals.
Did not enjoy this pizza. Ordered small pepperoni delivered. Pizza was burned and cold. Pepperoni was sliced way too thick. Won’t order again. Frankly Pizza in Kensington is much better.
Pizza was fantastic. Service was ok, a little disorganized.
We got the original tomato pie with Mozzarella. Solid pizza with great tomato sauce flavor but nothing too spectacular. A bit pricey but a step up in quality over fast food pizza.
Not quite the level of their pizzas in New Haven (yet, just opened), but still one of the top pizzas in the DC area. White clam pie is delicious. Great tomato sauce on the tomato pies.
