Three of us went here for dinner -- we tried 2 different appetizers and liked them both -- they were ample to split 3 ways -- shared the large bread basket and we needed that bread to sop up sauces which were delicious on everything we had -- 2 of us had lamb and 1 had chicken. Huge portions. Very nicely spiced meals. We split 2 baklava among the 3 of us for dessert. And 2 had Turkish coffee which was rated very good by them. We really enjoyed this meal. The service was personable and helpful. At the end we were shocked at the reasonable price even after having a glass of wine with the meal. Would definitely go again next time in Baltimore. Very nicely decorated dining room too.

My wife and I spent a long weekend at an Airbnb in Baltimore (Mt. Vernon). Upon scanning the reviews for this lodging I noticed some folks were raving about their experience at The Helmond. We had never had Afgani cuisine before so this sounded like our chance to try it. Excellent food, excellent service and very pleasant ambience! I enjoyed the different combination of spices they use. Garlic, Tumeric, coriander and cumin is what I noticed. The three of us shared the Mantoo dinner as an appetizer. It is described as three pastry shells stuffed with chopped vegetables and ground beef served on a platter of yogurt topped with a special carrot sauce. Tasty! I had the marinated, chargrilled lamb chop dinner. Delicious. My wife and son also enjoyed their lamb based dinners. The wait staff were very attentive and wanted to please us. The dinning room is very clean, tastefully decorated and roomy. You can sit and enjoy your conversation here.
Absolutely horrible experience! Made an advance reservation to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary. Even notified them prior to arrival of the reason for our reservation. We were at this same restaurant 7 years ago to celebrate our daughter's graduation. We were visiting the area and decided to dine at this same restaurant since we had great food and experience 7 years ago. Food was not tasty. Service was terrible. The ambiance was okay. Our reservation was for March 29 for 5:30pm. I told the receptionist (a guy) that we had reservation. He didn't seem to care. There were three tables occupied in the entire restaurant when we arrived. No excuse!
Excellent. I was very excited to try afghan food for the first time. I got the chopendez and the steak was so tender and full of flavor. Everything looked great. The service was a little too quick, but if you’re looking to eat somewhere very quickly, this would be a good option.
Excellent Food and Superior Service. A large group of friends were grateful to be seated that late in the evening; I wish to thank the Helmand Team for their excellent and gracious service. It was way past closing, but we were having so much fun we did not realize we were the only remaining customers and, all other tables had already been cleared for some time. Here, then, we created very joyous memories! Thank you so much!!!

Everything you get from this place is stellar! I will venture to say this is my favorite restaurant in Baltimore. A couple of months ago, I attended here for the first time and fell in love. I got the aushak and those raviolis were divine with the sauce. Yesterday, I did 3-courses for restaurant week and my entree with tender lamb and apricots had sweetness and spice having the happiest battle in my mouth. Do yourself a favor...book a table on Resy immediately. It should also be said that the service was impeccable both times I went.
I am sure that every menu item is delicious. We tried five items and all were superb. The baklava and cheesecake desserts were exceptional in flavor and texture. I could eat here often!
The Helmand is one of the nicest and most delicious restaurants I have ever been to in Baltimore. The staff is all wonderful, checking in on you respectfully and making sure you are enjoying your meal. Everything came out in perfect timing and I could not be more happy with the dishes I tried. I went for Restaurant Week and they had three different choices of an appetizer of your choice, a certain entree, and three dessert options. I will most definitely be going again without a doubt in my mind that I will again have an amazing experience.
