Southern Hospitality at its finest. Very clean and welcoming atmosphere. I was greeted by Jacklyn (Sorry if I spelled it wrong) who helped steer me towards the pit beef, after letting me have a little sample and I was sold. The sandwich was even better, topped.with purple cabbage slaw. All of their BBQ sauce is made from scratch and it shows! I'm going to be coming back for sure!
At first I was hesitant coming here for ribs due to the price, but now I regret not coming here on Day 1 of moving to Baltimore. I've been searching for a local barbeque place that could match my previous all-time favorite, and I'm so glad I stopped in to Smokin' Joes, because they served me the best ribs I have ever had in my life.The ribs are huge, tender, and full of flavor. The giant slabs of meat fall off the bone as you pick it up. When you take a bite, the rich sauce (if you get them wet) and perfectly juicy meat combine into a heavenly paradise that will make you forget about all the worries of life, because all you'll be able to focus on are the amazing, amazing ribs.

I stopped in as a tourist, looking to get some pit beef. I was staying in town without a car, and this place popped up in walking and/or bus range. Pit beef was great, came with a big salad. Yeah, it takes a little while to get your order, but, it was one of the owners who was working, and she told me how long it would take. In the meantime I talked to her and another customer about anything and everything. Highly recommend. One of many examples of how friendly a city I found Baltimore to be.
I had the brisket sandwich. It was delicious and it came with a side salad that i absolutely loved. Can't wait to try the pitbeef sandwich next.

If you have every had true southern bbq this place is for you. Best I’ve had in Maryland. This time I had a half slab of ribs, collard greens, and the loaded sweet potatoes. I wish I would have gotten more.If you like NC BBQ they have a spicy twist on it that’s better than BBQ I’ve had in North Carolina. Don’t take my word for it. Try it out asap.
I must admit that I am pleasantly surprised with Smokin Joe's BBQ. I ordered the chopped pork and the bbq ribs. First of all the presentation of both platters were well appointed with color and plated beautifully. The ribs were nicely placed on texas toast that allowed for some of the bbq sauce to continue keeping the ribs moist. The cucumbers on the salad were sliced at an angle that only a chef would understand and appreciate and bedded on top of spinach while accompanied by a medley of different seasonal tomatoes. The ribs had kick and a nice smoked flavor. Now getting to the chopped pork---wowww---nice balanced flavor of acidity and sweetness while bringing along a good blend of heat for those who like it spicy. Delicious down home bbq with a nice down home feel. I will be back soon.
We ordered the pit beef and pulled pork sandwiches. Both were very good in their own distinctive way. The pit beef was tender, flavorful, and great with the horseradish sauce, while the pulled pork had the distinctive vinegar "zing" that was delicious. The side salads were big enough to almost double as an entree, served with a variety of peppers, tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers. Happy to see them on Light Street and looking forward to trying the other offerings in the future.
