For any beer enthusiast in the area, this church turned brewhouse is worth going out of your way for a stop. The ambience provided from the remains of a Catholic church provides one of the most unique and awe-inspiring drinking experiences of my life, complete with high ceilings, ornately decorated pillars, and frescoes lining the ceilings. At the front of the brewery, the altar and pulpit are replaced by a slew of brewing equipment, setting the tone that this is church worships a slightly different blood of Christ. The tap rotation featured a wide selection of styles, some fan favorites, other more eclectic, all of which were delicious. My partner, who is gluten free, enjoyed the hard ciders they had as well. If you are in Baltimore for even a day trip, I highly recommend a stop. I am looking forward to returning soon!
I cannot say enough good things about Ministry of Brewing! We loved everything from the concept to the beers themselves. My husband and I visit a lot of breweries in our travels and we can say without a doubt that Ministry is in our top 3. It is definitely the most unique brewery experience we’ve ever had. Can’t wait to come back here during our next trip to Baltimore!
Holy beer! This brewery is fascinating. From the moment you walk in, to the moment you take your first sip of cold and refreshing offerings you feel very blessed that this very old catholic church was converted into a brewery! Although you will no longer be able to confess your sins, you will be able to meet some very friendly people when you visit this brewery. ???⛪?
As a first time visitor in Baltimore, I wanted to find a unique place to visit while here. I found this spot here on Google maps and was instantly intrigued. From the outside, the place is unassuming, you would never know what lies inside of the cathedral if not for the Ministry of Brewing decals on the front doors.Once you open those doors, the smell of hops instantly wafts into your nostrils. When you come around the hallway entrance, you’re met with the grand entrance of the cathedral which is almost breathtaking. The artwork and architecture instantly captures your attention before your eyes even catch sight of the bar or beer tanks. The atmosphere is so unique. There is pop/ boppy songs playing through the speakers while you’re admiring the artwork and architecture on the ceilings, walls, and even floor. Such a cool experience. There are many offerings as far as beer here but they also have local cider and non alcohol beverages available. I happened to visit on a Wednesday and they do not have food trucks here on Wednesday’s. However, after 4pm you are able to order from the nearby Bar 1801 and they will deliver your food directly to your seat which is convenient! I got a flight of beer and was not disappointed in any of them. I also tried one of the local ciders which I liked very much. All in all, this is a must visit spot in Baltimore! I walked from the waterfront area and it was about 20 minutes- not bad at all on this warm, nice day. I recommend Ministry of Brewing to locals and visitors alike!
Can't go wrong when you're brewing under Jesus..In town for a day and made a point to visit this spot.Great concept (albeit maybe slightly sacrilegious? ?)Being in an old church the space is large and immaculate.Food trucks on site to grab a bite. The beer selection is vast, offering a little something for everyone. Nothing I tried disappointed.I'd highly recommend and will definitely return.
This unique brewery is worth a visit for architecture alone. The beer was great but served in plastic cups, therefore the 4-star rating. We would have loved an opportunity to walk upstairs for an overall view of the cathedral and take a peak at the great organ in the choir stall.
First visit to the Ministry and we loved it. The structure is a beautiful old Roman Catholic Church. While the alter, statuary and stained glass are gone, the building retains its feel and has several pews and the original carved wood confessional. It’s a great place to hang out with friends. There are large picnic tables and high tops. Several parties had brought dinners with them, which was a great idea. It’s a great atmosphere and everyone was nice and helpful.I had a flight and tried 4 beers, 2 lite and two dark. The darker beers where better. And I loved the Hounds Tooth Oatmeal Stout. They also had two gluten free options. All in all, we will be back.
First time here. Very interesting atmosphere in a large, gorgeous church. Glad they saved the building and kept the architectural details and interior painting. It's a bit strange to see the different brew tanks in the place of the altar, but that's just me..Their beer selection was great. FYI, no ciders just beer. $10 flights ( 4 beers). Also note that they don't have their own kitchen ( yet) but have a different food truck nightly. You can also take your own food inside. Parking can be a hassle but if you're willing to walk some blocks to get there, it's doable. Enjoy!
phenomenal atmosphere and great, friendly bartenders
Great brews and love that they kept the church feel.
