Again im a philly cheese steak fan ,they have the best i tasted and the onion rings ate awesome
Went to this location today. Chili was excellent but kind of skimpy on cheese and onion and if dining in they could use disposable bowls instead of to go containers. My issue: fries. Not hot, not seasoned and just plain. My advice is ask for fresh or get them at the cheese steak place.
Food was great
I've never been to one but if they show celebrities eating it then they only have money and fame but bad taste well at least at this location I'm better off going to Wendy's or buying a can from any store and the bread was bad I didn't finish it just not worth it hope for better luck somewhere else
Nothing like the original, still really good food.
I don't know why people are giving bad reviews. This play is LENGENDARY! You know how many famous been here? Even Martin Luther King been here!! I rate this 10/10!
This place is utterly hipped. So much so, I will go out on a limb and say, food wise, this is a glorified rest stop - as in awful. Then why is it so popular and emblematic, some may ask? Well, let's not be trivial. As a black-owned restaurant (during the era of segragation), this restaurant became a must-go for politicians in need of promoting themselves as the "man of the people". It is a proverbial charade. Then, of course, the Hollywood crowd followed suit by going along with the pretense, also for the sake of attention. In other words, the popularity of this place has nothing to do with food quality. It is, in essence, a true to life and vivid example of "The Emperador's New Clothes"given the logical fallacy it represents. The food is laughably simplistic, overpriced, and just mediocre. From burned hotdogs to cheapest of fried galore, if unhealthy foods are what you crave, any fast-food restaurant or food truck will serve you a better burger for less money and in a nicer atmosphere.
The food was not as good as before!! The French fries were the best thing I had I ordered two slices of cake and they were terrible, right out of the box!! And I paid almost $5 a slice I wasn’t happy about that at all one bite and right into the trash can!! The service was just ok I won’t be back!! Not worth the money that I spent
Based on food alone, it's worth at least four stars. The spicy half-smoke is a genuine treat. But what blasts this place into all time legend category is its history in DC. A true institution.
Visited the Maryland location (1525 Russell St., 21230) after having eaten at the original and H Street locations numerous times since the early 90s. Spent $37.07 to be totally disappointed. My Beyond Burger was hard from being overcooked. My vegetarian chili had no distinguishable flavor. My onion rings were fried too hard. Spicy half smoke (with chili) was just spicy - it had no flavor. The only things that didn't disappoint were the french fries and soft drinks...
