Drinks and salad were great! We ordered the burger and a tamarind pork chop special for our entrées. Both were utterly fantastic… the kind where you’re so full but just keep eating. Portions are quite generous and next time we might just do one entrée to share! Service was great too. Looking forward to going back and trying more on the menu.
We had a family dinner one Saturday night with 6 from our family. We ordered 3 appetizers. If you like mussels, you will love Woodford food and beverage mussels! Tasty, saucy, melt in you mouth and enough to share. We also got the smoked trout mousse. More of a dip than a mousse. But, unique and tasty. My mom, who got the crab cake (delicious from what she said) topped her crab cake with the left over mousse. Fantastic! I won't go into all of the other details, but here are my highlights. I had the salmon and I wish the skin was crisper and the peas had been blanched a wee it longer. Three people had the duck special. The duck was quite memorable, but I wish it had been more of a complete composed dish. Maybe a saute of forager mushrooms would have been nice. The pannacotta! That pannacotta! One of the best pannacottas I have ever had. Delish.
All the food was very good. Appetizer and dessert portions were huge, entrees were a decent size. My burger came out too well done, but other than that the food was incredible. Drinks were a bit weak. All in all though, a great evening and I will look forward to going back.
Wow..james beard was right! Excellent mussels, croque madame, pate, oysters! Loved the Woodford spritz too! Friends got the yellow fun special and burger, all looked super legit. Fun diner vibe with big bar to eat at also
We loved everything about our first visit here. The citrus and beet salad was delicious, with a wonderful blend of greens and a yogurt dressing. I had the veggie burger--also excellent, with great toppings and fantastic spiced fries. The desserts looked amazing, but we didn't have room left in our bellies for those. Service was very friendly and attentive. The decor was updated diner-style. Relaxed, comfortable, very clean. We'll be back!
While WF&B did not wow us, there was nothing amiss in the food and service, and we had an enjoyable evening. This is a hard restaurant to categorize, since it falls somewhere between a diner and haute cuisine. The food is hearty and portions are generous, and while nothing tasted bad, nothing was memorable, either. Duck breast with a mixed berry and fig reduction sauce was perfectly cooked, though the sauce was a bit overbalanced towards sweetness. The trout terrine was a bit bland and tasted more of the binding agent than the fish. A side of green beans was, again, perfectly cooked, but with no seasoning or sauce of any kind. The risotto, again, was fresh-tasting and perfectly cooked as well. While none of us raved about the food, only the small eater left anything on the plate. Note that the menu is quite limited; about four appetizers and four entrees, but there are nightly specials which our evening included the duck. Service was excellent. The wine list has some good options, but is mostly composed of California wineries I have not heard of. The drink list is pretty good, and two craft cocktails were well conceived. If you have not dined here before, it's a good idea to call in advance about parking. There is a designated free lot several blocks away, and I am guessing you can see a sign explaining parking if you approach the restaurant from the Old Port direction end of Forest Avenue, but if you come down Forest from the other direction, parking will seem challenging.
Excellent restaurant overall. Food was perfectly prepared. Menu was not your average menu, but full of inventive food choices. Great staff. Cozy place with everything going for it.
Really wanted to like this place but the food was mediocre at best and service was just ok. I would expect better all around for the price.
This is a great spot. We loved the atmosphere. Food was excellent. We had mussels and crispy brussel sprouts. The broth was tasty, and the baguette was perfect for sopping up the flavor. The staff was attentive and fun, but didn't hover. The crowd was a mix of couples and groups. The long bar would be a great place to meet friends for a casual dinner. Yum!
Interesting location in a cool mid century building. Parking was a bit difficult as there was no real on-site parking and it is located in a large intersection. We had to Google parking to find that they use a parking lot up the street. Not a long walk. Very noisy inside. The menu is limited, but inspired, with a rotating cut of meat daily. The scallop risotto was an interesting take, but was dry and relatively bland. The lump crab cakes were nice, but the texture was too uniform, with more breadcrumbs than crab. The steak frites was a beautiful cut of meat cooked perfectly, but lacked seasoning. Overall, it was an interesting dinner, but for 4 people (2 children) at $200, it wasn't worth the price.
