Absurdly slow service. Not really sure what’s going on, took literally close to an hour to get bagels walking in. Would not have stopped by if we knew it would take this long. There’s no line or anything ridiculous. Just inexplicably an hour to go from ordering a bagel to receiving it.Edit: We didn’t even get our food. After 45 minutes, person working informed us it would be an additional 15 minutes to get 2 bagels with cream cheese. That was all that was ordered- 2 bagels with cream cheese. So just spent an hour of time and still don’t have food. Would avoid this place- currently need to reach out for a refund after waiting an hour for a bagel and cream cheese.Goad we made a point to stop by.
Husband and I came here our first morning in Portland. Definitely a wise choice. I’m a huge bagel fan and loved the classic lox bagel! Best one I’ve ever had! Bagels were so amazing. Perfect texture and flavor. Friendly customer service. Would definitely come here again. Might even stop in there again before we head back home! Totally worth the stop!
Poor attempt at a Jewish New York bakery. Owner also runs the Palace in Biddeford and it's clear he's just about his return on investment and having "clique" like establishments that offer a fake version of staples we grew up with.Worked one day there and watched non kosher foods being used, no gloves during sandwich making and prep, and they never even paid me for the one day I worked there. Overall F, between the cultural appropriation of the false Jewish kosher kitchen and poor hygiene I do not recommend.
I think it might be time to rethink the service system.I live in the neighborhood and usually like Rose Foods. I went in this week and ordered 6 bagels to go. There was no line and a few people waiting when I ordered. I waited nearly 10 minutes for the bagels. While I waited, I did observe the food delivery person dropping off grain and other goods. I couldn’t help but notice that he brought several cartons of Philadelphia cream cheese into the back. I guess next time I’ll order ahead and just buy the cream cheese from the supermarket.
One of the best restaurants that serve breakfast in Portland, as well as the people working in the restaurant are nice and fun people and provide good services to the customer
Just picked up our food. 1/2 Doz poppy and everything. To say these are good bagels is a joke! There were soo many poppy/ other seeds that you couldn't see the top of the bagel. A whole container of poppy seeds does not make for a good bagel! The taste also was not great!Visiting the area and took a chance. Will not be back. ?
I just do not understand the Covid restrictions you guys still have in place. I literally walked up to the window not wearing a mask and the girl working behind the window is also not wearing a mask we are speaking face-to-face directly in front of each other and I try to order and she tells me that I need to order over the phone. That literally makes no logical sense whatsoever. I think this all needs to be rethought? Because nowhere else has restrictions like this. Also obviously with this policy you have to pay by card which is also really annoying. Obviously it’s “if you don’t like it don’t go” so I’m not going to. But others should know.
Two stars because the food is actually good but their website and service are garbage. Sometimes you can order online, other times not. The website says you can call, but their voicemail says if you're trying to order, call back later. And not accepting cash is the pièce-de-résistance of hipster foodie nonsense. In New York, it's illegal to not accept cash because there are people who cannot access the banking system and rely on cash — I guess it's those kind of people Rose Foods doesn't want eating there.
It’s not 2020 or 2021, their health restrictions are harsher than anyplace else in Portland. Why do we still have to order on the phone, thru a window?? What gives? Part of the joy of a deli, is being able to see the food your ordering. I’ll spend my money elsewhere, don’t go!!!
I’ve been going here off and on for years and never once had a problem. Today I waited 50 minutes for two bagels and was treated rudely by whoever I spoke to on the phone when inquiring about the order. Just a bummer to have that experience at one of my favorite breakfast spots. It’s enough of a poor experience for me to never want to go back.
