Stopped on a Sunday evening after dinner in the area. There was a line outside the door and onto the sidewalk earlier so we were happy to see it was shorter when we arrived around 8pm. The selections were slightly limited because of a busy day but there were still good choices. We went with a single scoop cup ($4.25) of the heath bar and another of the Kit Kat. The serving was smaller than what we had at other ice cream locations in the area, but was enough for us on this evening. They offer chocolates as well as the hard scoop ice cream - in cups or in cones and also offer a variety of toppings. The place was always quite busy when we walked by.
Portland the surrounding area have Ice Cream stands almost everywhere you look and the vast majority are handing out scopes of very good locally made Ice Cream at the going rate of $5 a serving. But Sam's is handing out Home Made Ice Cream for that price, and they're heavy handed in the way they dole it out. A single is like a double and so on. So bottom line, Sam's is the best bet for Ice Cream in Portland in terms of quality and quantity.
Really cute shop, delicious homemade ice cream, and most flavors are kosher! (Just ask to see the certification) all the employees were super nice and patient as they helped our large group with many young kids. Thanks guys!
Had second thoughts about this being a tourist trap, based on the ideal location… we later described our salty Carmel and blackberry ice cream as a religious experience. Unbelievably good.
Decent ice cream. Slightly overpriced. Gets five stars for the cute guys working when I went.
Great workers and so many flavors to choose from! My favorite was blueberry! A really fun spot to get a treat!
It always happens - you walk down a sidewalk and someone has an ice cream cone and you ask "where did you get it and how is it"? Well we got directed to Captain's Sam and thank you to the passerby. The shop is cute both outside and inside and the ladies were kind and engaging. There's lots of flavors but I chose the Salted Carmel, and after a taste of mine so did my wife. This is an outstanding flavor - it's very creamy and tasty - probably the best we ever had. Of course while we were contently walking with our cones we were approached with the same question - "where did you get it and how is it"? The family then hurriedly went to get their Salted Carmel and would probably answer the same question later. In a land of lobsters, this has to be the best ice cream.
Love the blueberry ice cream and blueberry soda. Highly recommend it. You must try!!!!
Creamiest ice cream I've ever had. Definitely try the sea biscuit! The two scoop option is so worth it - you get two GIANT scoops. You can't even see the first scoop below since it's entirely covered by the second scoop.
Decent ice cream and chocolate shop. I recommend the pumpkin ginger snap ice cream and cashew milk chocolate turtle.
