We really enjoyed our time at Boones. Our waitress really took the time to explain to us the oyster world since we were first-timers. Drinks were strong, but I'm not complaining about getting my money's worth on alcohol. Definitely recommend to visitors looking to enjoy some good seafood with some fresh ocean air!
As a child I remember eating at Boone's with my grandmother and family. Last week my daughters and grandchildren got to experience Boone's as a family tradition when in Portland. They loved the historical piece of the place and my 11 year old grandson loved your mussels. When he saw the size of the bowl - huge - he wasn't sure he could eat them all. I managed to get 4 but he finished the rest and the bread. they were delicious! Thank you for helping me share a memory with my family.
Late lunch. Haddock sandwich, street corn and peel and eat shrimp were fresh and flavorful. Seafood and lobster are expensive but that is market wide. The location on the Portland waterfront is amazing if the weather is nice. Indoor seating and bar areas looked like fun. Staff was good and well trained. Will return.
We found this restaurant as soon as we got into Portland and had wonderful lobster rolls BUT we kept seeing other people’s food delivered to their tables & everyone was as enthusiastic about their food as we were!
Absolutely amazing food. Great atmosphere. Don't let the harbor like feel detour you from this place. The food is amazing. Everything I had was great. Great for large groups and you can tell the chef takes pride in his creation. Have the clam chowder it was so good.
We came here for a company happy hour and must have tried every app on the menu. The Ceviche, Elote, Shrimp, Mussels, and Crab Cakes were all excellent and highly recommended
It was our first time at this interesting place 2 years ago with friends for my birthday, while we were visiting Maine, Portland. The place was crowded and the atmosphere was chic. The employees were very cheerful and friendly, the menu was not boring, the variety of seafood was wide, well, obviously ? but not only. In general, researches of local places and reviews did not disappoint us and we ended up here. I recommend to everyone who will be in Maine, Portland, check this cool place out! Thank you for the memories.
I walked right by this place. Super busy all over on the boardwalk. It sits right behind Gilbert's Chowder House. It was a gorgeous day out, and thought I'd give it a try. The hostess must have read my energy, she knew just where to sit me - upstairs in far corner table. Just beautiful. Made it quite hard to leave. I had the Newberg Top-over: scallops, haddock, and chewy lobster (as it's still hard shell season) in sherry sauce. Some of the fish was still cold and not cooked correctly in the sauce. The waiter would've known that had he stopped and asked how the food was. He did fill my water glass often though. ? I would order the swordfish next time I go.
Very much a tourist trap. Right on the harbor. Interior dark, no too attractive. Worst crab cakes I have ever had - more like a pancake with breading and no crab. Was about a quarter inch thick, no identifiable crab. Lobster roll too pricey for amount of lobster. Huge amount of fries. Summer salad and corn dish were just ok. Just don’t bother, too many other places to choose. Surprised not to see oysters on menu; found a piece of paper on host stand as I was leaving that listed them. Too bad for me, would have gotten a dozen.
I would not recommend this place. There are so many good restaurants in Portland, why waste a night on mediocre food, poor service, and a poor waiter. After waiting for far too long once we were seated for a waiter or even a glass of water, we had too request service. Our waiter came over to the table and angrily told us he had 5 tables. Sorry, not our problem. He could have just apologized and moved on. The caesar salad was fine but my husband ordered salmon, which was so small, it was laughable. There were a few slivers of carrots on the dish a teaspoon of something else. My shrimp scampi was pedestrian. Bland, undercooked shrimp, and then the forgot the bread that came with the meal. We asked for my bread and a little bread for my husband. Well, they brought mine and a single piece for my husband. They then had the nerve to charge $3.00 for a tiny slice of bread. After receiving the check, we paid the bill and then told the waiter he could have at least told us he was planning to charge $3.00 for the piece of bread. He was arrogant, said nasty things to us, and walked away. There is nothing this place has to offer. Go somewhere else.
